Negotiating Part Time Hours - Advice

Has anyone ever gone from full time to part time in the same job?

I don’t want to out myself so I’ll try to explain.

I’m in a low paid but very ‘worthy’ job. I have taken on loads of extra work for no more money. More than half of my job is doing something that I would like to do in three days if that makes sense. I’m pulled in all directions at work because I’m capable but I have three DCs, a DH who works away and I’m constantly busy. I would love to do three days just concentrating on one aspect of my job.

Yes, I did just this. I sat down with the directors, explained why I wanted to do it, suggested the three days I would work ( those that would suit the company best), how the rest of the job would be done, cost (or in my case) savings ) the company would make by me going part time, then left them to think it over.
I wasn’t actually very hopeful as they had always previously refused, so I thought I’d be handing my notice in and accepting another job I had lined up. But they went for it. I think that what swung it was me saying that I would work full time if necessary to cover holidays and sickness.
Good Kuck.

It can be done but it depends on how easy it’s going to be to find someone to do the other bits of the job that you don’t want to do.

I think I have a good case. I would still attend meetings and training and when I break it down it would be better for them financially.

It’s either this or a new job, I just have to hope that they don’t want to loose me.
