We had the rest of the quiche for lunch, followed by a vigorous discussion about whether it was a light enough lunch for a Japanese takeaway tonight to be OK. Everyone wants the takeaway so various justifications were advanced. I said to DH he could order “watery ramen” for a lighter option if he thought quiche was his main meal. “Damn, you called my bluff!” DH is a sucker for a bento box.

The tree is still up, but so am I - progress.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/12/2020 15:13

Agree about the test, however I will be as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit at work if I am coughing and have not had a test. It would also cause huge and far reaching implications if I were to actually have it and take it into work as we work in a closed environment.

The lady at the test centre said it could take up to 72 hours for a result, but I'm registered as a key worker so not sure if there is a mechanism to have those tests speeded up

In other news DDog3 is still limping and will likely need to be knocked out and x-rayed. The new Ethernet cable is all DS dreamed of and more, and the forecast for snow has now changed to rain.

Frownette · 29/12/2020 15:24

That's sweet @HeartsTrumpDiamonds :)

My exciting news dull and unexciting is that I've just crunched a vitamin pill. Can't swallow them properly.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 15:27

Soddingkitten I would love a Japanese takeaway for dinner or even Chinese or Thai but DH is never that keen on Asian food. He always wants burgers and chips.

Just lying on the couch waiting for DD2 to be ready to come to the supermarket with me. DH is in his office in the dungeon (basement) working and DD1 has not emerged yet - I think she is still asleep. (It's 10.25 am here). No real plans for the rest of the day apart from a scheduled FaceTime call with one of my oldest and dearest friends this afternoon. Really looking forward to catching up with her!

Frownette · 29/12/2020 15:29

@Champagneforeveryone oh people jump a mile when you cough. It's like you've had a nuclear explosion. I coughed once and a runner jumped up onto a grass verge in alarm. I'd had my one cough and raised an eyebrow at him trying to avoid the trees in panic.

Hope doggy ok.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 15:30

@Frownette Smile

Ooh, for today's instalment of "Cats in Boxes", I give you ChampagneCat in a box that contained our National Front Trust membership.

I’ve taken the dog for a long walk, and my legs haven’t warmed up yet.

I need to clean the bathroom and kitchen, and I think I will put the doormats in the wash. I really want a new big doormat to cover the whole of my tiny hall, but the one I want (specially absorbent for dog purposes) is ridiculously expensive.

HelenaJustina · 29/12/2020 15:58

We did a town walk delivering the cards. Wiggling from one end to the other and back (via buying a baguette for sandwiches for lunch) took 2 hrs and there was no moaning!
@EggNogPegg the thank you card stamps were purchased and are now in the box in the village in time for our ridiculously early afternoon collection (just the one each day). I’ve been unusually virtuous with these this year as we haven’t opened presents in front of anyone. If the DC open presents in front of the giver and I feel they do a satisfactory job thanking them, I don’t make them also write a card (unless the giver is my MiL in which they must always write one!)

HelenaJustina · 29/12/2020 15:59

I felt my thank you card policy sufficiently dull for the thread... I’m now cleaning the bathrooms, also mundane.

dementedma · 29/12/2020 16:05

I went for an hour's walk in the snow on my own today

soddingkitten · 29/12/2020 16:21

I left my menfolk watching Tenet (the new Christopher Nolan film) and went for a brisk walk in the fading daylight. Everyone wangs on about what a great director Nolan is, but his films leave me cold. I normally watch them to keep DH company. This one has a 12 certificate so I’m off the hook.

I’m counting down to the Japanese restaurant’s usual opening time so I can ring to see if they are open. Some local restaurants have closed until early January due to Christmas and the Tier 4 restrictions. The Japanese restaurant’s website gives no information about restricted opening or a temporary closure so I am hopeful.

EggNogPegg · 29/12/2020 16:49

@soddingkitten, I don't think I've ever had Japanese food. Is it any good for vegetarians? We're in a market town so curry houses, Chinese and pizza are the only offerings here. It's times like this that I miss living in London. The first time DH came to visit me in Londonhe was lamenting that he'd run out of cigarettes at midnight and didn't believe me when I said that we could just pop to the shop next to the tube as it was 24 hours. His mind was also blown when we had a WOMAN bus driver that weekend. He comes from a relatively large city in the Midlands so I'm not sure why all of this was such a shock to him.

DH and the DC have had another Nerf battle. DS1 is now listening to Minecraft songs in his room and playing his Kindle, DH and DS1 are watching Frozen. I'm in my room working on my assignment with my washing machine playlist playing and EggyCat2 is asleep next to me.

In thread worthy news, I have ordered 4 new bath sheets.

soddingkitten · 29/12/2020 17:04

Egg - yes, plenty of vegetarian options in most Japanese restaurants, for example omelette nigiri & maki rolls, California maki rolls (veggie with avocado), tofu dishes, vegetable tempura, seaweed and veggie side dishes.

I’ve just spotted the time! I can call now. I hope they are open as tying out that list for Egg has made me hungry.

God I love sushi. Where I live there is Indian, fish and chips or Pizza Hut from the nearest town. Sad

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 17:57

The main problem with sushi & Japanese food generally is that it is really expensive here, much more so than say Chinese or Thai.

soddingkitten · 29/12/2020 18:10

DS over dinner: “Did you know the queen was born before sliced bread was invented?” Our takeaway is delicious.

Sunbird24 · 29/12/2020 18:15

I didn’t even get dressed today, just wafted about in my new Cyberjammies cotton robe like a very decadent lady from the twenties (in my imagination at least!) In my defence I live on the top floor of a three storey building and it’s really quite warm at the moment even with the window open...

Nomnomarrgh · 29/12/2020 18:24

Went into city today. Really heavy snow so worried may have to walk home. Snow vanished by home time.

Therainisback · 29/12/2020 19:17

Went for a walk in the snow and watched the families with small children sledging - we also remembered the cold toes, soggy gloves and tears. One family arrived as we were leaving & the son was dressed in a onesie - don't think he's be staying for long.
Had mushroom omelette for tea, now about to wield the pinking shears on the Christmas cards.

Spudlet · 29/12/2020 19:32

Brrrr, a very chilly day here. My run was ok, knee held up well, then later we went for a walk and dear oh dear, dawdling along at DS’s pace was a bit uncomfortable! We were very glad to get back inside again!

Got the fire lit now so we’re finally warming up. DS has a speech therapy appointment tomorrow, so we will have to light the fire again in the morning so we can have the windows open without turning blue around the edges.

I have made things worse by adding a photo - I’m going to quit while I am behind. Sorry again, everyone.
