Possibly eggy we are Dorset, whereabouts are you again?

MissConductUS · 30/12/2020 21:47

Welcome, @StillSmallVoice and thanks for sharing the good news about your son finding a new job. I don't blame you for not reading the thread, it's a bit boring. Smile

We dropped off DH's car and DH is off to pick up a takeaway from one of our favorite places, and I'm having lobster rolls and fries chips.

Congratulations to your son on his new job @StillSmallVoice.

My new pan set arrived - all unpacked, washed, seasoned and put away. I had no idea until today that non-stick pans were supposed to be seasoned.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 30/12/2020 21:56

Congrats to your DS Smallvoice

DH returned with the bed and mattress in the car. He has insisted before he took it down in our tiny car and I told him he didn't and he took base one time and bed the other. He didn't believe me. Now he's returned and said do you know I don't think I can have taken both down together as it took me an hour to get both in and I'm missing one part. Good to have most of the bed back and mattress and cat is super happy with the new dining table and chairs. Tomorrow is the return of the chest of drawers and if we are lucky the garden table and folding chairs.

WutheredOut · 30/12/2020 21:59

I just found a half eaten Family size bag of mini eggs from last Easter. I figure they have no calories being past Christmas so I ate them. I have to tell you because I can’t tell anyone in my family as I did not share.

EggNogPegg · 30/12/2020 22:05

Welcome @StillSmallVoice. Congratulations to your son.

@Champagneforeveryone. Not a million miles then. I'm in Wiltshire.

Hooray for new pans @Nydj. What's this about seasoning them? I've only ever done that with cast iron ones (and I was rubbish at it, everything stuck).

Tonight I finally learned how to connect my phone to our many Echo Dots. This is useful for audiobooks through media other than Audible, and for podcasts.

I have also changed the bedding on my bed for the second time this week as it had a funk to it this morning. I suspect a soggy EggyCat2 is to blame.

Frownette · 30/12/2020 22:07

Actually I've got a lobster I don't know what to do with. I was considering lobster rolls, lobster linguine or thai with noodles.

@Champagneforeveryone I've got a COVID test tomorrow, live near you. Had a negative one pretty recently but I have elderly relatives and have had temperature and cough so need another. Am sure you will be ok.

Frownette · 30/12/2020 22:12

I nearly cried at my manager today, she said she's moving on.

She'd said prior to this we would catch up once a month and I was thinking "whatttt? Only that? But I want you every day!"

So that was sad but wrote her a nice card

Nydj · 30/12/2020 22:22

Thank you @EggNogPegg. I’m relieved to not be the only one not to have realised that my hard anodised pans were supposed to be seasoned - like you, I thought you only had to do that with cast iron pans. And the instructions say that we should do this regularly!

Ah @Frownette, that is tough. Having had managers of caring qualities over the years, I can definitely appreciate your pain at losing a good one. N.B my current manager is a good one (just in case he is reading this 😆

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 30/12/2020 22:29

Just cancelled DS's orthodontist appointment as he says he loves his 2 rabbit front teeth and doesn't want them corrected and he is brace refusing so seems pointless with covid as well. DD will go on 21st, covid and Tiers permitting.

Just had a Chinese - had sweet and sour king prawns in breadcrumbs with special fried rice and a glass of coke. I love our Chinese.

Champagneforeveryone · 30/12/2020 22:40

Are you Dorset as well frownette?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/12/2020 23:00

@SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecatkie
Smile DS has been recommended braces for years, but is refusing as well.

MissConductUS · 30/12/2020 23:44

I've just read the Wikipedia article about Wiltshire. It sounds lovely and has a fascinating history. I may have to name change to Moonraker. 😁

OP posts:
EggNogPegg · 31/12/2020 00:24

@MissConductUS. I'm not from Wiltshire originally, so I just went and read that page too. I've never heard of locals being referred to as that, but there is a local club known as Moonraker, so now I know why they have that name. See, this thread is always teaching me something.

It is lovely here. Lots of history and gorgeous areas right on our doorstep. The town I live in isn't too rural though, which is important to me as I'm a Londoner. I can't be too far from civilisation for long.

Sunbird24 · 31/12/2020 00:38

I’m a Wiltshire resident too, but also not a native - I’m a fugitive from across the border in Somerset...

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/12/2020 01:35

Wiltshire is just lovely.

Sitting in front of Fox News ugh DH's fault, not my cup of tea eating After Eights and mentally preparing for our big New Year's Eve celebration tomorrow. Our big dilemma... which channel to watch the Times Square festivities on Grin

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 31/12/2020 02:57

We love going to Longleat in Wiltshire and often go around Christmas time for their winter safari and land of lights but not allowed this year. It's quite a trek for us but lovely.

Having a very interesting conversation on how to dispose of the paint we have at old house - not an easy task and we may have to just move it here and try and get rid of it later. We can't use skips in old area as car registered here and here the skips you can only go once a week and there are paint restrictions but they can say what they are, its up to them on the day apparently. When we bought the house there was loads of paint from our predecessors who must have had same issue.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 31/12/2020 06:50

DS said that the cat loved our second dining table but what would we do with the first one. I said it was very old and we would either get rid of it or DS could have it. DS asked exactly what height it was and then said he would have it as rabbit can't jump that high. I said he may be able to jump on the chair then the table. DS said why would I want chairs I just want a dining table which will let me store my things safely but won't look pretty. I said well we could buy a prettier table but rabbit might destroy it so seems a bit pointless. DS then said he may have a 17 year storage problem Xmas Shock that no-one cares about. Confused

I then suggested DS have the chest of drawers and DS said no he only has about 2 items to store so wants a table. This presumably means DS has no plans to leave home pre 30 if he has a 17 year storage issue!

mathanxiety · 31/12/2020 07:55

Well, it snowed, then we had some freezing rain on top of that, and then some wet rain, but the wet stuff froze when it hit the ice. The end result was a good deal of huffing and puffing as I chipped ice off my windshield this morning before sallying forth to work. Some Good Samaritan had lifted the wipers on my car and my neighbours' cars last night so they were clear of the mess. It's very icy underfoot and there is that sharp coldness that you get when you have a clear night after snow.

I bought a nice big shoulder of pork for New Year's Eve dinner and I'm now facing the dilemma of how to cook it. I know it will be slow roasted, but I need to figure out if I'll do a plain slow roast with apples, scalloped potatoes, roast veg and maybe creamed spinach, or the more Mexican style carnitas. I bought potatoes and I'm leaning toward that, but on the other hand I also bought tortillas. Decisions, decisions...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/12/2020 09:49

DH announced that he averaged 12,6 h work per calendar day in 2020. Luckily his job is also his hobby and sth he is good at.
I can see little bits of blue sky.

@mathanxiety
A difficult decision indeed. I'd love potatoes, DH would want tortillas.

Nydj · 31/12/2020 09:58

If and it is a pretty big if, I manage to remember to phone the Chinese restaurant at lunchtime and book it, we will be having a delivery from them this evening for dinner. They do some salt and chilli tofu that we all love and I pop them in the air fryer to re-heat and crisp up but the best bit is that loads of oil drips out so I feel all virtuous that we are not ingesting all that oil.

HelenaJustina · 31/12/2020 10:11

You can do it @Nydj I believe in you!

We’re having a 5 course meal this evening (if you include the palate cleanser and petit fours) the DC are wildly excited - everyone will dress up and we’ll start with cocktails/mocktails and canapés.

forgetthehousework · 31/12/2020 11:08

That sounds amazing Helena; we haven't even got to the stage of thinking what we might like for tea/dinner.
I may make a banana loaf as the ones in the fruit bowl are very much past their best ...

Champagneforeveryone · 31/12/2020 11:10

Covid test was negative so back to work for me tonight. A mixed blessing really, I love my job and I'm not naturally disposed to hours on the sofa with my family (I've been off work since Christmas Eve) but OTOH I'm quite jealous of all your plans and rather fancy a five course meal. I may splash out on a Waitrose ready meal to see the year out in style Grin

soddingkitten · 31/12/2020 11:15

I had plans for this morning. I sat on the sofa for 10 mins to give the hot water tank time to heat up for my shower. Sodding has decided my lap is the place to be for his long morning nap. My plans have been abandoned. This is my penultimate day of leave at the end of a long, challenging year. Come Monday I’ll be hopping back on to the runaway train. Just for this hour or the next, I am happy to be cat-becalmed. Downing my phone now to enjoy the moment. 🙂
