Talk to me about shark hoovers

Morituritesalutant · 27/12/2020 09:58

Finally convinced my DH that a new hoover is needed (ours was my grandmothers and it’s at the end of life)

I really like The Shark ones but DH things it’s a fad

Are they really worth it? Cordless or normal?! XL or just normal sized?

We have no Pets but I shed hair like non ones business, have 3 kids (1,2&8) and a 4 story house

My Shark is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned. I live in a 3-storey home and the fact that it is cordless makes it so easy to move it about.

I've had a Gtech (awful), Vax (truly horrendous) and a Hoover (ok, not amazing) and have had my Shark for 3 years and it's brilliant. Also, a small part broke after I vacuumed over something that I should really have picked up Blush and the Shark Customer Care team didn't bat an eyelid, just shipped me out a whole new section of the machine, which was fabulous!

I also have the 'pet hair' attachment but it's overrated and I never use it.

I've got a normal sized upright powered lift away. Replaced a Dyson and I cannot fault it.
Suction is amazing, my cleaner has a Henry and she has conceded that it is better and she uses our Shark on our fortnightly cleans now. It's lighter and quieter than all previous upright Dysons we've owned. Wish I'd spent a bit more and got the anti hair wrap one as my DD and I have long hair, but that said it's very easy to remove and clear the brush (again, compared to previous Dysons)

I had a look online after that thread the other day. And it occurred to me that that thread could be marketing.................. too cynical

Shark hoovers very expensive. I was shocked.

I need a hoover right now but I might just buy another Henry.

I love my cordless Shark. It was about half price on Amazon when I got it though.

I would certainly never go back to a corded one.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 27/12/2020 10:07

We have the anti hair wrap shark. We have three dogs and a shredding me.
The anti hair wrap Does Not Work.
What we end up with is beautifully combed hair wrapped around the roller brush. What I would pay for a vacuum cleaner that actually worked!

FigDate · 27/12/2020 10:09

Mine is brilliant. I’d never have a different brand now.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 27/12/2020 10:12

Love mine. Recently mine broke-had had it 11 months. They tried to fix it but when that didn’t work they sent me a brand new one! Great customer service.

BlairCorneliaWaldorf · 27/12/2020 10:14

Do it. Amazing vacuum. Cordless is super easy. I actually vacuum now!

DuzzyFuck · 27/12/2020 10:16

We have a Shark corded, less than £200 on an Amazon lightning deal. It's hands down the best I've ever owned or used.

DuzzyFuck · 27/12/2020 10:18

To add to a PPs comment, I find the anti-hair wrap works perfectly even with my very long shedding hair. My old hoover had to be taken apart every time to clear the hair off the roller, the Shark doesn't wrap at all. I don't know what I'm doing differently to the PP!?

kingdomcapers · 27/12/2020 10:19

Performance wise it's a bit meh. I bought mine before the "anti-hair wrap technology" and have to take scissors to it to get rid of DDs' long hair. When that ad comes on I shout fuck off at the tv. What I do like is that you can take the battery out to charge it so the actual cleaner can still go under the stairs and not permanently stand plugged in in the corner of the kitchen goading you for not using it enough every time it catches your eye.

Flaunch · 27/12/2020 10:21

Great on carpets but complete shit on hart floors. I much preferred my Henry tbh.

mrsjg · 27/12/2020 10:21

I love mine. I have a corded upright and would love a cordless one but can't justify it as our shark isn't 3 year old yet.

The one that I want (twin battery one) is always out of stock so maybe that's a god thing.

Hands down best hoover I've owned.

WanderingHopefully · 27/12/2020 10:21

No, hate them. We were given one and were debating whether morally we could take it to the skip, that's how useless it is. The dust container is the size of a cup and needs emptying all the time. The skin flakes and dust that float everywhere when you empty it are horrible. The dust canister is permanently dirty. Cleaning the filter is a revolting task. And it's not even that good at cleaning. Other than that, it's great Grin

Sebo is the only make I'd buy. Built to last and does a much better job.

SoupDragon · 27/12/2020 10:22

Mine does just fine on hard floors. Even when I don't remember to switch it to the hard floor setting 😂

GrouchyKiwi · 27/12/2020 10:23

I love my Shark. We bought it when it was about half price, and it is absolutely worth it. I can actually use it (Miele/Hoover/Henry type vacuum cleaners make my shoulders shift out of joint), it has great suction, and deals pretty well with the hair my Newfie sheds (and mine, and my three DDs with long hair). I do have to clear the brush of hair after every use, but that's not a bother.

I use the pet hair attachment to do the stairs as it's exactly the right size.

terriblyangryattimes · 27/12/2020 10:24

I got a cordless model (without anti hair wrap) on their ebay page- it was a return or damaged box but its still under warranty and there was a 20% off sale too. SO PLEASED with it. Before we were using a Dyson v6 and a Dyson upright. Gave the v6 away immediately and the upright is in thr attic just in case the shark dies (god forbid) I used it as soon as it arrived and had charged and was amazed at what came up from a carpet id only vacuumed the day before.

I'd love a anti hair wrap one but snipping off the hair once a week isn't that much of a hardship!
