How to cure a mn addiction

Probably not the place to ask but I need to reduce the amount of time I spend on here. Does anyone have any tips please?

Er.....It’s very difficult but what I do is have a list of things I need to do that day. That way, I feel like I’ve achieved things rather than just wasted time On mn all day.

I ended up deleting my app for a few months - worked well as it took longer to go in via google, but somehow the app reappeared Blush

Coffeeandcookies · 26/12/2020 16:13

Shall we try to offend you, would that make you flounce?

SuperbGorgonzola · 26/12/2020 16:22

Definitely delete the app. I deleted it in April for a while because of all the Covid Police, and I got used to not having it quite quickly.

Try replacing it with something not interactive and that isn't constantly updating. I try to go for Kindle App when I find myself just wanting something to read.

Time40 · 26/12/2020 16:22

I know exactly what you mean, OP! I got some free blocking software called Self Control. I just click that when I've been overdosing on MN.

Chapellass · 26/12/2020 16:51

Delete app!

Ooh I can have a go. OP I think you're the most deviant person I have ever seen on here. I'm not sure why you are defective but I'm adamant that you are.

Don't you dare darken my door!

Seriously just read the news or listen to some music or get someone to confiscate your phone :)

It's very easy to do, use MN too much!

HCPor · 26/12/2020 17:26

Get a job in which you can't have your phone.

Do a degree.

Something that involves you being busy without your phone.

If you have a child under the age of 2 then don't worry about it yet.

Shinylikeglass · 26/12/2020 17:29

I deregister fairly often but I only keep it up for a short time before something comes up that I desperately need an opinion on, then while I'm there I get involved again! I should find someone else to ask...

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2020 17:29

In the summer during lockdown #1 I just went cold turkey for a few months. I stopped looking at it (it was all Covid, covid, covid and it got too much).
I don't have my mobile phone on me at work although I can as I find it distracting so that's good.

Just dip in and out, don't feel the need to comment on everything and see how you go.

Coffeeandcookies · 26/12/2020 18:13

Good work Frownette, you seem to have done it! 👍

BigCrimboCorona · 26/12/2020 18:14

I deleted it on the 24th and reinstalled on 25th... so I can't help sorry

oldshoeuk · 26/12/2020 20:22

Try a different addiction. Imgur keeps me going for hours and is a little relief from here

LutinDeSapin · 26/12/2020 20:52

Log out and make your device forget your password. Every time you want to post you have to decide if its really worth it!

FantasticRik1 · 26/12/2020 20:53

I spend too much time on MN too OP and would desperately like to change this.

Can anyone recommend any other websites? Or alternatively try to offend me too so that I flounce?

Sorry to hijack OP but great thread.

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 26/12/2020 21:54

We’re all really sad. I keep looking at my “Someone’s wrong on the internet!” cartoon. In fact I might print off a few more copies and stick them on my internet devices, see if that stops me. I can usually stop for a week, but I always get sucked back.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 26/12/2020 22:36

Waste no time - download it. You can set it to various websites and allow yourself a set amount of time, say 20 minutes and after that any mn page you click on will be blocked by it. No more website for you for that day

Thatwentbadly · 27/12/2020 07:28

I don’t even have the app.

I’m going to look at the waste no time app.

There's apps you can get that you can use to block certain domains. I've used it in the past to make me more mindful about how often I automatically opened up mumsnet.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 27/12/2020 07:59

I used parental controls on my phone to limit myself to 1.5 hours a day. Sadly I know the PIN To bypass this once time is up. It has helped a bit though.
