I'm new to this podcast thing and have just discovered Spotify (I know, late to the party as usual). If anyone has any favourites they'd like to share I'd love to hear them. I'm having a baby soon and looking to line lots up for marathon cluster feeding sessions!

I really like "This podcast will kill you", it's two epidemiologists telling you about different diseases throughout history and present day. Sounds a bit morbid, but it's done in a light hearted way, they are really interesting to listen to and they've done some great episodes on vaccines and covid.

Well, it all depends on what your "cup of tea" is, but I recommend:
Revisionist History

You Must Remember This ( a podcast about old Hollywood - it's BRILLIANT, and if you like it it has a huge archive)

Gallus Girls and Wayward Women (women in history)

Swindled - a podcast about con-men and women

Gloomandglow · 26/12/2020 11:10

I've loved:

The high low- this has just finished but there are plenty of old episodes and has given me so many amazing book recommendations

Redhanded - True crime podcast

Dolly Parton's America

The Adam Buxton podcast

Shagged married annoyed

My dad wrote a porno

Unexplained

Runpod

Fake doctors real friends - if you enjoyed scrubs

If you're not concerned about it being rude, then My Dad Wrote a Porno is the best podcast ever. I had to stop listening to it in public as I was laughing out loud so much!

Other favourites are The Missing Cryptoqueen, Death in Ice Valley (both on BBC Sounds), Serial, Teacher's Pet, Fortunately (BBC Sounds).

Following

I’ve not listened to many but was enjoying They Walk Among Us recently. It’s about UK murderers.

PriscillaChinchilla · 26/12/2020 11:12

Gloomandglow - I listen to Unexplained too.

notacooldad · 26/12/2020 11:14

There is a podcast section in mumsnet that is with looking at.
To be honest it depends what your thing is. Mine is mainly true crime but I also like Parcast's 'cults'. I liked The Nobidy Zone, Teacher's Pet (not available in Australia),
Favourite crime:
They walk amongst us
Case file
Mens rea
Once upon a crime
Serial killers
One I listened to recently was The Miami Chronicles, booby trap.

It seemed an open and shut case but it was so much more. It was a conversational piece with a friend if the victim.

Hunting Waymrhead us fascinating how they fought a peodophile who used the dark web. It was a huge international operation.
Swindled is good as well.
Even the rich is good, especially the Murdoch episodes. That family is like a Shakepean play!!!

You will find out what style you like. I don't like loads of irrelevant chat. I prefer a single narrator and for it to be kept respectful and not too over maudlin.

trumpisaflump · 26/12/2020 11:16

I listen to

The Liz Earle wellness podcast

The Guardian audio long reads

Rob Beckett and Josh Widdecombe's lockdown parenting hell podcast. This is my favourite. It's hilarious!

Grounded with Louis Theroux

Ifonlyicouldliveinmypjs · 26/12/2020 11:18

Shagged, married, annoyed is very funny.

Freetodowhatiwant · 26/12/2020 11:21

The Allusionist is really fun and clever, made by the same people who had Answer Me This. The Hi Low as mentioned before, Edith Bowman’s one about movie music if you’re into that sort of thing. The Big Travel Podcast is a travel one talking to some really good guests like Bill Bailey and that channel 4 presenter who was just in the Amazon. Once you get into podcasts you’ll love them.

lastqueenofscotland · 26/12/2020 11:23

I really like shagged married annoyed
Today in focus is good too for making your feel well informed

Blerg · 26/12/2020 11:23

Why Mommy Drinks - parenting

Crime: My Favorite Murder, Affirmative Murder, The Murder Squad

Trashy Divorces, Even the Rich

Spooky / weird stories: Spooked, Radio Rental

Science: This Podcast will Kill You, Conspirituality

Also Adam Buxton

Cults; The Missing Crypto Queen is mind boggling. Also Escaping Nxivm

Blerg · 26/12/2020 11:24

Oh and I haven’t listened to many but the episode on Cats from How Did this Get Made was hilarious.

Whenwillow · 26/12/2020 11:25

I like Older and Wider with Jenny Eclaire and Judith Holder for giggles.
If you do a search on Spotify for people or things you're interested in, it'll come up with all sorts of suggestions for you.
I enjoy Newscast for keeping me up to speed with current affairs, and also The Bunker.

Mxflamingnoravera · 26/12/2020 13:30

Blind boy is a great podcaster. Based in Limerick, talks a lot of sense about mental health and Irish history and folklore.
