Boring Xmas day conversations

I remember this thread last year. It kept me strangely entertained in its boringness.

I’ll start. Our boring Xmas day lunch conversion centred around Aldi v Lidl chicken breasts. (Lidl won if anyone’s interested).

Anyone else?

How Flora Buttery is no longer vegan, but they haven’t changed the packaging. We had to start it again each time someone else came in the kitchen to ensure everyone was fully informed.

Dreamymcdreamer · 25/12/2020 23:57

How many days off work everyone has over christmas / how many days people had to take out of their annual leave for those days off / when they have to use the rest of their annual leave by

Butterymuffin · 25/12/2020 23:58

Oh, I didn't know it wasn't vegan anymore @EduCated. It was what I bought regularly but the taste changed a while back, I think when they went vegan with it, and I didn't like it anymore. What was the verdict in your house, for or against?

The trifle was lovely and fruity but what gives it that strange texture.

My sisters almost came to blows over the confirmation outfit worn by a classmate of mine. This confirmation took place in 1983.

EduCated · 26/12/2020 01:15

Buttery Against, but we bought it for its veganity Grin I do think it was a bit of fuckery to not change the name or label in anyway, other than a small and fairly missable ‘now blended with buttermilk’ badge. The gits.

Endermen don't like water so if there's water then they don't go there or if it's raining because they don't like it and lava too but you can't go in lava well you can in creative because you can't die in creative but if it's in survival then you can't go in lava because you will probably die

confusedpombear · 26/12/2020 01:31

We discussed airbrick covers in great detail, marvelling at the idea and how easy they are to fit around vents.

Then we moved onto discussing how hard sandbags are to fill.

(we did narrowly avoid a house flood a few days ago and evidently it's still all we can talk about Grin)

My 91 yr old Dad who I popped in to see (as I'm in a bubble with him) raised the following scintillating topics:

  • when he can get a urology appointment at the hospital
  • when will he get a Covid vaccination
  • what his new tax code means.
He was fretting which isn't unusual for older people who spend a lot of time alone but it was a bit frustrating!

@EatsFartsAndLeaves. I’ve had the same conversation with DS, if you can call it a conversation, I just smile, nod and agree!

I genuinely can’t remember what we talked about at dinner, which show how scintillating it was...my memory loss is nothing to do with the sparkling wine I was consuming. 🤞

I do remember that the American football was starting soon and I was happy for DD and DH to leave the table to watch it, because the conversation was descending into daft teenage comments from DD and DS. 🤣 I then sat by the fire and sipped some more bubbles. 🥂

grassisjeweled · 26/12/2020 02:29

Mainly whinged about the weather really.

elp30 · 26/12/2020 03:16

We chatted about the state of the wood siding planks on the back of the house and how parts of it need to be replaced 💤

And it got better because we were estimating how many fence panel slats we need to replace as well.

It's 24/7 excitement at my house.

Schehezarade · 26/12/2020 07:03

OMG - who is locked down, what rules are in place, where are the rules different, when they changed, and on and on and on. Aaaaaaagh!
Only just worse than the traffic on the way here, there'd been an accident somewhere this had caused more traffic on another road, this meant there was a tailback somewhere else but idiot/selfish/lorrydrivers/some people only made this worse by doing something or other which caused something else to happen etc etc etc

OhYesYouDidBoo · 26/12/2020 07:06

We discussed whether or not John McCain was actually a war hero.

Deathraystare · 26/12/2020 19:51

No conversation (as on my own) until I got to work. Then general work chat. Usual moans of why wards don't answer phones (yeah I know they are busy, but we get family member of those on the ward absolutely amazed that if no one answers or phone engaged then they will have to phone back!

Delivery drivers (food) who don't take note of the name or ward!!! They have little English and keep repeating Mental Health! We have around 8 wards!!!

FlamingGoat · 26/12/2020 19:55

Coal. Ordering it, should we change from house coal to doubles or try a different high heat, low ash one and should we get a new skuttle. Is so should it be brass or black, long or round or silver ....its all rock and roll round mine.

BashfulClam · 26/12/2020 23:12

Mil wants a new carpet, a grey one and the walls painted and she called the decorator, he says he can come in February.....on repeat for 8 hours. She repeats herself over and over.

Mincepiehangover · 26/12/2020 23:15

Talking about upcoming tax bill and the VAT rate. Made my excuses and sneaked off to bed!

ragged · 27/12/2020 00:48

When DD was 6yo I got daily short summaries of her social life.

When DD was 12yo I heard daily accounts of all her social events of the day (at school), literally a 20 minute description, period by period, what happened who said what etc. (socially) in each lesson. Lunchtime, the bus...

Tonite 19yo DD gave me a lovely summary of the people in her Uni halls, and little adventures she's had with each person. :)

ThisTooShallPassHopefully · 27/12/2020 00:54

We talked about how much ear wax ds (age 15) produces. It started when I picked his earphones up and noticed how dirty they were. The conversation lasted at least 20 mins.
Who needs a social life when ear wax exists?

Spanielmadness · 27/12/2020 00:56

The age of the tablecloth loaned for the occasion (about 40 years old!) and the times it had been used........

Deathraystare · 27/12/2020 09:16

ragged

That's lovely! I have had too many conversations with nephews, nieces, friends' kids wo tell me what they did at school. They had lunch, but they don't remember what is was. When asked if they did anything else whilst there, apparently not. Well at least they were fed!!!!
