Been ill for 5 weeks with stomach virus...anyone else?! What is it?

I’ve been ill now for 5 weeks and sooooo fed up!! It came and went for a couple of weeks then 3 weeks ago knocked me off my feet!
Had terrible runs for a while and ended up in hospital on a drip. That’s calmed down but still can’t eat much and have lost over a stone.
I’m completely wiped out.
I’m separated and can’t have the kids at home as don’t feel well enough to look after them. Had them for a few hours today (Christmas) but tired me out so much.
Has anyone had anything similar?
I’ve had lots of tests at the dr but everything has come back negative so it’s “viral”.
Anyone? I’m going nuts!!

Long Covid?
Have you had antibiotics before the illness? They can muck up your gut bacteria

DixieFlatline · 25/12/2020 22:10

When you say you can’t eat much, what is it that is preventing you? Is your gut back to normal, or not?

JamesAnderson · 25/12/2020 22:12

Do you have any other symptoms?

Giardia? I had it a couple of years ago and it sounds very similar. Tests don’t necessarily pick it up unless they’re specifically looking for it and even then I had a negative before my positive

Moonmelodies · 25/12/2020 22:16

Covid-20?

emmaluggs · 25/12/2020 22:17

I’m assuming they’ve done a stool sample? I had similar and it was Giardia

BirdsDoIt · 25/12/2020 22:19

I was going to say giardia as well.

Haggertyjane · 25/12/2020 22:19

Stool sample maybe? Mostly it is viral and my dr said it can take up to 6 months to settle down. Probiotics help, but it can take ages.

Haggertyjane · 25/12/2020 22:20

Mine took almost exactly 6 months. 6 months of stomach pain, weight loss and such an urgent need to poo I actually shat myself. Effing awful

Vitaminsss · 25/12/2020 22:20

I know this is a bit of a brush off, but could be stress induced

BlueStarRose · 25/12/2020 22:22

Lactose intolerance? More common i children then adults, but sometimes after a bad stomach bug people can become lactose intolerant. It usually passes, but if you’ve tried everything else you may want to consider cutting out dairy for a bit.

I don't think so as I've been in contact with quite a few people (my partner, friend, kids dad etc) and no one else has been ill

I haven't had a sore stomach at all. No cramps or anything. Just loose bowels which are much better now...

I had Covid in March and I had mainly gastric symptoms. No appetite, nausea, painful cramps and diarrhoea.

HelenStewart77 · 25/12/2020 22:27

@Moonmelodies

Covid-20?
The dr said it's possible but highly unlikely as no one around me has had it

Every time I went to the dr they brushed off Covid. Even in the hospital they said it was unlikely and I never got a test. Did anyone around you get it?

I had the same thing last year for 5 weeks before Christmas. It was horrible I could hardly eat but eating settled my stomach. I had awful headaches too. My Dr. put me on nexium which helped a bit. I couldn't tolerate dairy at all and not for a long time after. The thing that really helped was silicol gel and bio kult candea.

Miriam101 · 25/12/2020 22:35

Did you have a test for coeliac disease?

I haven't seen that gel. I'll look into it. Did the dr say what it was?
