Nintendo switch won’t connect to the internet!

Anyone else having a nightmare setting up a Nintendo Switch? It’s dd’s main present and the bloody thing won’t connect to my wifi, despite being in charge and sat next to the router. Ive entered the right password and everything else that relies on wifi is working perfectly. I’m hoping that Nintendo is just overloaded with new switches trying to connect and that I haven’t bought a dud Sad

Mine did this! Although I set mine up before Christmas because I knew this would happen to me ...

Have you pushed the button with the arrows on the router? The WPS? I think it's called ... this made mine connect - I also had to be sat right next to it for it to work :-)

Thank you I will try that!

Make sure the capital letters are on for the password

Try setting up a hotspot on your phone to test?

Zofloramummy · 25/12/2020 14:44

How do create a hotspot?

Yes I’ve copied lower and upper case exactly.

My dad thinks it maybe due to the frequency 2.4 and 5?? I have no idea 🤷‍♀️

Yes I had this and and I had to set up a “guest” wifi to get it to connect.

If you look on Nintendo website there is a help section, good luck

Check that your router Mac filtering isn't blocking the switch connecting - this solved a connection issue for us

Zofloramummy · 25/12/2020 17:38

Thank you all for your suggestions. I’m going to try contacting sky after Xmas. In the meantime we’ve played with it on the tv and had a boogie to Just dance, raced mariokarts and built a house in Minecraft so all has not been lost.

I’ve decided that it isn’t worth stressing over today so I’m listening to classic fm whilst finishing off our Xmas roast for 2. I suspect I’ve cooked far far too much Grin

Happy Xmas to all.

Sky are my broadband provider in case that didn’t make any sense!

Oh my god, I’ve had the exact same problem- I have tried everything over the last few days to connect it with no luck.
I just don’t know what to do next - how can it be this hard?!
I am going to try the ‘hotspot’ suggestion and the Mac filtering ..and see how I get on

Littleyell · 25/12/2020 19:24

I’m glad it’s not just me that was faffing around this morning.. we played on the TV too.

Zofloramummy · 26/12/2020 00:23

Which broadband/companies are you with? I’m with sky and I’m wondering if it’s a generic problem with all providers or with Sky itself.

Hi. How did you manage to get it linked to your sky Wi-Fi in the end? Still struggling here.. Thanks

Zofloramummy · 30/12/2020 11:10

@cm0301 I deleted the saved details for the router off the switch, then searched for networks again and reentered the network password and it went through.

Thanks- will give that a try. I think our router is rather old so thinking that might also be a factor 🙄
