Another bastard cat

Just bought a new rug for my hallway and despite three clean and unused litter trays one of my cats decided to do a poo on my new rug. WTF, as I have no idea which one it was there will be no turkey for them today.

Well they like to make things smell like home. They need an even scent profile so the rug must’ve stuck out like a sore thumb.

They do this when they're stressed or unwell. Cats generally don't like soiling on flat surfaces and will prefer to use litter or earth. They can also do it as they become elderly.

Is the litter okay and the cat his usual self?

farawayplanet we have 4 cats so not sure which one it was, three of them are on medication at the moment and one of them is more poorly than the others so I suspect it was him. First time it has happened, they are usually so clean.

We had an incident like this.

They were all in the room at the time.

I pointed and asked “Who did this?” In a stern voice.
4 of them turned their heads to stare at one particular cat who then made his way over to it and had a sniff.
I think I knew who did it.

Probably the smell that new carpets/rugs have? My cats were terrible for peeing on the new bedroom carpets for a few weeks after we got them fitted (the tom in particular). In the end we had to keep them shut downstairsm
