Is anybody else erecting something awkward this Christmas Eve?

DH is struggling with the posh canvas indoor playhouse for toddler DD, which I got second hand off ebay for £30

Suspect the reason it was second hand is because the cover mysteriously won't go down to the bottom of the frame.

DH has put it all together. Taken it down. Gone in search of wd40. Applied it to interiors of poles. Taken shirt off. Said "fuck". Opened a bottle of beer. Put frame together. Said "and this thing would have been £250 new?"

Any minute now and I will be required to tug something down the newly lubricated poles, boom boom.

He is now poking his head through a frilly broderie anglaise playhouse window, he is still saying "fuck"

I should be so lucky !

Grin I’ve told DH to enjoy this Christmas Eve - it’s the last one before we become parents & he has to start spending his evening putting together all sorts of toys!

Honeyroar · 24/12/2020 22:42

Can you not cable tie it as far down as possible? Cable ties and gaffer tape fixes everything in this house!

winesolveseverything · 24/12/2020 22:42

😂 Sorry, that has made me giggle!!

eyeoresancerre · 24/12/2020 22:43

Yep - DH just starting to assemble DS's gaming chair. The instructions go on for pages. I've slunk off to bed because I'd told him days ago to make a start on it out in the garage. I've shopped and wrapped all the other gifts so I'm trying not o feel guilty for not staying to help! Love the image of your husband swearing in a playhouse - very funny. Merry Christmas when it comes.

DH has just started assembling three bikes Hmm

Hopefully he'll be done before the kids start waking up...

We have to do doll bunk beds but we've decided to leave them flat pack so they can double up as a handy STEM toy when we hand DD a screwdriver and tell her to crack on tomorrow Grin

Exciting update on posh playhouse of doom. DH has managed to pull the cover over just enough to get about a quarter of each velcro strip around the corresponding pole.

I suspect the 100% posh cotton (mined by virgin unicorns by the light of the full moon) has shrunk a little, as I had it scrunched up and hidden at the back of the hotpress. Like a pair of jeans just out of the wash, I have faith it will stretch more over time

I have no guilt at watching him struggle, as I've been prepping the food all day Grin

I have also just nipped out out of the room, when I arrived back in and could not see DH

"Where are you?" I ask

"I'm just fixing the curtains" comes the voice of the big fanny inside the playhouse, as he twitches the broderie anglaise

Fuck, we did doll's bunkbeds for our eldest, years ago.

Absolutely atrocious. Really bad. A friggin doll's bed, yet worse than every ikea flat pack known to man

My sympathises to anyone in this situation! The famous Christmas of 2015 when we built a trampoline at midnight in the snow (after rather more vodka than was advisable) remains scarred on my memory.

I myself am trying to shove the dc's presents into a formation that makes it less obvious that I bought too much and trying to work out what to put in the stockings the dc have put out for their pets.

I’m loving the way you are relating this @ReallySpicyCurry

We have just finished assembling some flat pack IKEA for DD. We only had to take it apart one because the pieces were the wrong way around. I think that was pretty good going.

eyeoresancerre · 25/12/2020 06:20

Purple dagger - you finished at 2am? You poor thing! I salute you in the name of parenting though. Dedication!

ReallySpicyCurry · 25/12/2020 06:41

@purpledagger 2am, ouchGrin

As for building trampolines... There are no words
