Advent Disappointment

Anyone else disappointed with their advent calendar? I had a Nespresso one and it was a real let down for the price, especially the 24th 'special' surprise.

This is the first time I've bought one for myself. Maybe my expectations were too high 😂

We have a wooden advent calendar with drawers that I fill with chocs and little notes about where to find something or what to do. Too little for too much money in fancy shop bought ones.

Unmute · 24/12/2020 08:20

Nope loved mine. Swizzels sweet factory for £5.

Shinylikeglass · 24/12/2020 08:21

"Special" advent calendars are a masterpiece of "added value" packaging.

Tiny amounts of product in a fancy box.

You're absolutely right. Lesson learned. Until next year... 😂

Two shitty little metal espresso cups. Not even matching colours, or I would have stuck them on eBay.

We do our own filled one. Wanting Advent calendars as anything but a countdown and excitement builder is always going to be disappointing.

Advent isn’t meant to be a celebration (except Gaudete).

daisypond · 24/12/2020 08:27

I just have a traditional cardboard one with pictures behind the doors. I’m happy with that.

SmileyClare · 24/12/2020 08:28

I grabbed a Chilli Lovers advent calendar for dh reduced in Tesco.

I didn't read the packaging but it turned out to be a solitary jelly bean behind every door with the occasional one being a foul tasting chilli flavour one which he had to spit in the bin. Not really a treat for anyone Confused

Now that's disappointing!

Glad you put a "spoiler alert" on your two little cups. I'd hate for anyone to have the enjoyment of finding those spoiled.

Wafflehouse · 24/12/2020 08:33

MyOtherProfile we’ve done this for the last couple of years too. Tbh I’ve found it hard work this year trying to think of things for everyday.

Imagine little Jimmy or Betsy's face all lit up finding them. "It's what I always wanted!"

We usually have a cheapo choc based calendar. This year decided to get Lindt one for each child as a special surprise. A tiny chocolate ball most days was a bit of a disappointment. No idea what's behind today's window as both kids are still snoozing! Grin

Twobrews · 24/12/2020 08:39

I didn't bother this year but a couple of years ago had a cheese advent calendar. That was quite crappy.

M0rT · 24/12/2020 08:45

I got the Gibson's jigsaw one...it is brilliant if you like jigsaws so next year you won't have to be disappointed Smile

frustrationcentral · 24/12/2020 08:46

I've filled a large one with enough chocolates for the whole family to have one a day, except today, there's nothing in today... epic fail Grin

It's a huge pocket as well so the children are going to be a bit disappointed this morning! ConfusedGrin

QueenPawPaws · 24/12/2020 08:53

My best ever advent was one you filled yourself. My dad did it every year, and when I was 17 I got a car for my birthday (a Fiat uno, don't be thinking it was a brand new BMW or something!!)
Anyway I passed my test and he said I would have to wait as the insurance wouldn't insure me. I was gutted but didn't complain
December comes, and advent goes up. Christmas Eve I reach in the advent to find an insurance letter folded up. Much confusion, then I realised and grabbed the keys and sprinted downstairs Grin
He could insure it, he just wanted to do it as a surprise

Fieldofyellowflowers · 24/12/2020 08:54

I usually get the beauty ones. They can be quite good depending on who you buy from. Amazon's one was really good this year. Last year I bought one from Boots and it was crap.

Beautiful3 · 24/12/2020 08:55

@FedUpWithBriiiiick
This is so gross it made me cry with laughter! First time I've laughed since my mum died recently. Thank you 😂

SimonJT · 24/12/2020 08:56

I bought 24 bottles of beer, although as I’m working from home I do have to make myself wait until after work if it isn’t an alcohol free bottle.

Beautiful3 · 24/12/2020 08:56

Sorry meant to tag in @SmileyClare

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/12/2020 08:56

I’ve just got a little-pictures one. Which reminds me, I haven’t opened the 24th window yet!
