Do I have to have cooked AND eaten all the leftovers by then? Or can I still eat the leftovers past the 26th as long as it still smells ok? It’s my first turkey rodeo and don’t want to poison the family Grin

Just need to change its state by 26th, either cook it or freeze it.

custardbear · 23/12/2020 20:24

I'd personally say cook by 25th and use rest by 27th or freeze it the day you cook

SpaceRaiders · 23/12/2020 20:24

Cooked by the 26th but it’ll keep for a few days after as long as it’s been in the fridge.

It means cook it by the 26th. You can then keep left overs in the fridge for 3 days or freeze it in portions as soon as possible.

Dumpyandabdabs · 23/12/2020 20:24

No as long as you cook it by the 26th, then you will have 2 days after cooking to eat it or 3 months if you freeze it.

Parkandride · 23/12/2020 20:25

Cooked by the 26th, fine to eat cold/reheat over the next few days

Turkey likely to be fine past the 26th as well, we mess around with the use by dates for Christmas Smile

Horehound · 23/12/2020 20:25

Well, it's the same principle to all food like that isn't it?
As long as it's cooked by that date (or shock horror... a day or two after as they put a contingency on their dates) it's fine...

ProfessorInkling · 23/12/2020 20:25

They all, always, have use by dates of 26/12. Cook whenever and eat for 3 days 🦃

Jellysplat · 23/12/2020 21:20

Wonderful thank you!

Always smell and feel it - if it's a bit smelly, or slimy at all, then Bin it
