Why am I getting my pay so earlier?

I'm usually paid from work on the last day of the month but just checked my bank and it's going in tomorrow?
Anyone else?

Christmas month is always paid early. (In most jobs)

Ginfilledcats · 23/12/2020 17:14

Christmas pay is always early

AdditionalCharacter · 23/12/2020 17:15

A lot of places do that, pay before Christmas. Don't worry.

HopeAndDriftWood · 23/12/2020 17:16

Monday is a bank holiday because of Boxing Day being a Sunday, so it only gives three more days in the year - and it’s typical to be paid early in December anyway Smile

Megan2018 · 23/12/2020 17:16

We always get paid at least 1 week early for Christmas, makes January a bloody long month!

DrDavidBanner · 23/12/2020 17:17

Yeah Christmas payday is always early. Not many payroll offices working over Christmas, and gives time to sort out any discrepancies before the bank holidays.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/12/2020 17:17

We always get paid early (carer) normally 26th of the month. Hate this time of year, as it is 5-6 wks before we get paid again.

WhatKatyDidNxt · 23/12/2020 17:18

Yeah l have been paid early as well. I find it a hindrance, where my partner works you can opt out of it and get paid on the usual day. Wish l could!

YakkityYakYakYak · 23/12/2020 17:19

This is usual. It’s so the payroll team can have a break too.

Just make sure you factor in having to spread the money out over a longer time period, I’ve been stung before by not realising I’d have to pay two lots of bills in some cases Blush

ArosGartref · 23/12/2020 17:24

DH Gets paid early in December and January, February is the shortest month so things even out. Only company I know that does it that way but it's quite clever.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/12/2020 17:25

Our company switched permanently to a mid-month payday (16th or last working day before 16th) to avoid this as it can really screw people up!

ScrapThatThen · 23/12/2020 17:34

Just go steady spending it because January is a long month!

Zoinksalot · 23/12/2020 17:40

If you know you get paid early in December, how is January a long month?

Just don't spend the pay until your usual payday ??

gurglebelly · 23/12/2020 17:40

I love the sweeping generalisations on MN. Christmas pay is not always early as some posters have declared, it is for many companies but not all by any means (we pay on normal pay date in December). Clearly yours is one that does pay early

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/12/2020 17:41

We got paid last Friday. I do my Christmas shopping early so I never fall into the trap of thinking I’m better off than I am, but I still hate it. It almost feels like two months between mid December and the end of January. Talk about the bleak midwinter.
I much preferred it when I got paid on the 15th of every month.

AnxiousSM · 23/12/2020 17:43

There really is no reason why you should be paid early. All banks have a facility to set up a payment date in advance, that way payroll can do their work and set up to pay on normal pay day. A lot of companies pay early but not all.

GabsAlot · 23/12/2020 17:50

my dh got paid yesterday-alot of places do it before xmas

does make jan a long month

wendz86 · 23/12/2020 17:53

We always get paid early in Dec .

99victoria · 23/12/2020 17:53

I work for our local county council. I will get paid on 31st December - the last working day of the month as always

Regularsizedrudy · 23/12/2020 17:55

Have you never worked before?

SlippersForFlippers · 23/12/2020 17:57

Transfer it to another account and then back again on your usual pay day. That's what I usually do.

BertieBotts · 23/12/2020 18:00

This used to be annoying when I worked somewhere that paid hourly, because it was a week or so early you'd be paid for about 3 weeks' work, which would then have to last 5 weeks until the next payday at the normal date in January (of course this would then be higher).

If it's a monthly salary that's always the same I don't see the issue.

jmh740 · 23/12/2020 18:07

I get paid early in December first job ive ever had that does, dh doesn't get paid early he works for the civil service so I dont think its right to assume everyone gets paid early.

Justlovedogs · 23/12/2020 18:14

Not unusual but, as others have said, not always the norm. Usually comes down to companies trying to help people out at Christmas (though not useful, really as the tendency is to spend it too early!) and payroll staff being on annual leave between Christmas and New Year.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/12/2020 18:17

Always paid early here too, so is DP. We just pretend it isn't there until normal payday otherwise January seems to last forever!
