Why am I getting my pay so earlier?

I'm usually paid from work on the last day of the month but just checked my bank and it's going in tomorrow?
Anyone else?

@ArosGartref

DH Gets paid early in December and January, February is the shortest month so things even out. Only company I know that does it that way but it's quite clever.
Same here Grin
HaudMaDug · 23/12/2020 18:23

Payroll was my job of the day today.
With the bank holidays and shut downs of workplaces the best way to ensure payment is processed in time for the end of the month. HTH
I know I certainly don't want to have to get back into work mode next week. I intend feasting on cheese until January.
Merry Christmas to you all.

helloxhristmas · 23/12/2020 18:24

Always get paid early. Hate it. Makes January so bloody long!

Nsky · 23/12/2020 18:26

I get paid weekly, wish it was monthly

MitziK · 23/12/2020 18:35

With the exception of one job (where I had to wait until January 9th to be paid because the boss was on holiday, so didn't see anything wrong in my waiting until work reopened), every other place I have worked at, whether ordinarily paid on the last working day of the month, the 28th, 27th, 26th or 24th, I've been paid by the 20th at the very latest so that payroll can take leave over Christmas.

This year is the latest I've ever been paid - the 23rd - because they decided not to do it as early once the way it fucks up Universal Credit claims was discovered; in short, it results in people having their claims reduced to NIL and/or closed and their not finding this out until the end of January.

DP is somewhat miffed that for the first time, he isn't being paid until the 27th for a similar reason.

I'm fine with this, as I'm past the stage of my life when I'd spent all November's salary by the 15th and then spent most of December's before Christmas Eve - that long, long 'month' from 18th December to the 28th January is not one I ever want to experience again.

Joeblack066 · 23/12/2020 18:40

You don’t have to spend it early tho? I’ve always been paid early in Dec but I don’t touch it till pay day 🤷‍♀️

Ginfordinner · 23/12/2020 18:49

Because in many companies the payroll department are on holiday from Christmas Eve until after 1st January. Surely, you must know this?

Mangofandangoo · 23/12/2020 18:55

We're never paid early and I'm so pleased - I really couldn't cope with a 6 week long January

EBearhug · 23/12/2020 18:59

We used to get paid before Christmas (because January isn't a long enough month anyway,) but I checked my payslip today, and we're being paid on the last working day of the month (as usual) this year.

listsandbudgets · 23/12/2020 19:08

We get paid early and in order to avoid confusion myself I transfer it into a savings account t and then set up a future payment for it to go back into my current account on normal payday.

Saves the feeling of an incredibly long gap between paydays. However I'm paid monthly. As @BertieBotts points out its much tougher if you're paid by the hour

shamus2020 · 23/12/2020 19:30

Thanks guys I've never been paid early from previous jobs. Only been in this one since feb so was suprised. Dd doesn't get paid early from her job in retail.

Anyone answer me this question. I get paid weekly. So any bank holidays etc means I’m always paid another day. With Christmas Day on the Friday and the bank holiday on the Monday after. Will I be paid on next Tuesday ?

Echobelly · 23/12/2020 20:23

Yup, I was paid on Monday, we're paid about a week early at Christmas.... be warned, you will have to make it last to the end of January!

You need to ask your employer to be sure, anyone here is guessing the same as you are
Haffdonga · 23/12/2020 20:33

Don't spend it all at once. It's a pain when you have to make the month's pay last 6 weeks.

Paranoidmarvin · 23/12/2020 20:33

We have asked. A few of us. No one seems to know. Or care if I’m honest. Don’t even get me started

Tippexy · 23/12/2020 20:48

@Zoinksalot

If you know you get paid early in December, how is January a long month?

Just don't spend the pay until your usual payday ??

Exactly! We have this thread every year 😂
Tippexy · 23/12/2020 20:49

@Mangofandangoo

We're never paid early and I'm so pleased - I really couldn't cope with a 6 week long January
But it isn’t a six week long January Confused

If you are paid two weeks early then so what? Just don’t touch it until your normal payday...

Drogonssmile · 23/12/2020 20:57

I'm nhs and (Dec) pay is usually around 5 days early to account for Xmas. I.e paid on 22nd rather than 27th.

Drogonssmile · 23/12/2020 20:58

As per other pps it's not always the case. DH gets paid on the same day regardless.

islockdownoveryet · 23/12/2020 21:01

You'd be surprised , I've worked in payroll and the staff literally waiting for the early pay day to do the Christmas shopping. Obviously then January with no money is very bleak . It's just convenient for the company because if bank holidays/ annual leave , employers aren't being kind . For me I'd not touch it till pay day move it into another account if you can't be trusted .
SunshineOutdoors · 23/12/2020 21:05

In non covid times it’s good as there’s usually a lot of social events around Xmas ad new year but you’re skint from buying presents and food so it tides you over. I’ve always appreciated it and January’s shit and boring anyway (and will be even more so this year).

Heyahun · 23/12/2020 21:17

I pay everyone in the company I work at - we closed on the 18th for 2 weeks - so I paid everyone on the 17th as I won’t be there on usual pay day :)

PetertheWalrus · 23/12/2020 21:22

Same here. Payday is the last working day of the month except in Dec when it's the last working day before Xmas.

ChocAuVin · 23/12/2020 21:31

I don’t get paid until the last working day of the month, every month.
