Looking for Fairground Horse Book

Hello, I'm on chat for traffic. I'm feeling nostalgic and I've been thinking of a book I used to read in childhood. It's about a white carousel horse that is desperate to get off the carousel and be a real horse. He eventually gets off and is initially excited about being free. But after being rejected by real horses and realising that he prefers his life on the carousel after all he makes his way back. Only to find that he's been replaced...

I have no idea what the book is called and have been googling it for ages. So now I'm appealing to MN. Does it sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks in advance Xmas Smile

Is it Sugarlump and the Unicorn by Julia Donaldson?

Finfintytint · 23/12/2020 16:21

The Runaway Flying Horse?

FlyingSquid · 23/12/2020 16:24

The Moon on the Water?

Sounds very like sugerlump and the unicorn though - am now wondering if Julia Donaldson ripped off another story! 😂

I knew exactly the book you meant before I clicked, so I'm thrilled to be reminded of the title.

Thank you!

GrinGrinGrin I'll have to check this story out. Then we can expose Julia Wink. I've always been suspicious of her I haven't

I have a dim memory of it feeling slightly creepy.

Maybe it's just sad?

There was definitely a darkness to it. And I've just seen some pictures of the illustrations and they could be seen as unsettling.
