I'm 21- nearly 22 and I've been with my partner for just over 3 years now- he's 37.

I'm in university studying a degree (psych) and he is a business owner. Together we have two dog children Grin

Hoping to have a human child within the next few years- I've said before he is 40. Wink

What are everyone's views on this?

I think that anyone who is on the internet, asking for opinions from strangers about their apparent happy and equal relationship is very aware there is an issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gensola · 24/12/2020 00:15

I’m 35 and my DH is 55 - we are very happy. My family love him and he’s the love of my life, even if we don’t get to retire together I won’t regret it. Be happy Flowers

CherryPieface · 24/12/2020 00:20

Why are you asking? Do you think there is an issue?

BigGlasses · 24/12/2020 00:21

I think the old guide of half the older age+7 always works. So 37/2 = 16.5 +7 = 23.5 means you are a bit youngg for him. Age differences can get bigger whenever you are older as so much is to do with life experiences 60/37 is possibly more compatible than 17/22. Just because you grow so much as a person at younger ages. If you can hold off until he’s 45 and you are 29 and you are still compatible then I would have kids then. There is no hurry, men’s fertility is much less pressured than woman’s so time is on your side.

Why do you want our views? I don't understand why you're posting? If you're happy why do you care what we think?

DinosApple · 24/12/2020 06:58

It doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I'm in a relationship with an 18 year gap.

We got together when I was 22. I thought he was younger than he was, and I've got the sort of face that's been around a long time 😂. Annoyingly sometimes people don't realise there's a big age gap!

Been together 15 years now. I still love him, we've got two DC, we've sold our business and are now both working part time. Yes he will retire in a few years, but on the plus side he'll be around more for the DC's teen years.

Old age can be a bastard, but there's no guarantees in this life that you will get there. I'll come back and let you know what it's like in 20 years!

nosswith · 24/12/2020 07:34

Given your youth I would wait a while before having children. Such a relationship makes me suspect the kind of man who dumps his wife/DP every ten years for someone younger.

@FatLassNumber1

She's 21, does that matter?
Er yeah that is weird. She’s barely out of her teens and you’re middle aged. The fact that you’re a woman doesn’t make it any less gross.
DillonPanthersTexas · 24/12/2020 09:57

Most 18 year olds always like to think they are terribly mature of their age but most of the time they jut behave like, well, 18 year olds with not much life experience. I have always struggled to see how a mid 30s man would see or treat an 18 year old as an equal. There is just too much of a power imbalance that can lay the foundations of controlling and abusive behaviour. I would seriously question the motives of a man who was showing a romantic interest in a teenager.

IcedPurple · 24/12/2020 10:06

He's too old for you. However 'mature' you may consider yourself to be, or however much of a 'young soul' he claims to be.

And I know this will probably inspire a ton of defensive comments, butt there's something not quite right about a man on the cusp of middle age who dates a teenager .

Me & my ex husband were 20 years apart, the age gap was never a problem for us, 1 child together. Me & my current OH are 15 years apart, 1 child together & currently trying for another baby
