Can anyone remember this children's book title from the 70s/80s?

Please help. I trying find a copy of an illustrated book from my childhood. All I can remember was that the characters had big pointy noses and big nostrils. I keep thinking it was Spike Milligan esque? But not his. Hope it rings a bell. I remember it being quite rude al la Roald Dahl...

Could it be illustrated by Quentin Blake?

VanGoghsDog · 22/12/2020 23:56

Wasn't Edward Lear poems was it?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/12/2020 23:59

Don’t know the actual books but Quentin Blake or possibly Gerald Scarfe illustrated?

MarieVanGoethem · 23/12/2020 00:18

Big pointy noses made me think of Fattypuffs and Thinifers - the latter are VERY pointy of nose. It was translated into English in the 1940s but with the reprints I don’t know you’d have noticed at the time iyswim? It’s not rude in the same way as Dahl though really.

Do you remember anything of the plot at all? Was it more a picture book or a novel? Annoyingly I can half-envision a jumble of books that might-maybe fit but they’re refusing to order themselves nicely in my memory...

It wasn't Bottersnikes and Gumbles was it? I seem to recall the Bottersnikes having big pointy noses....

My first thought was the Molesworth books, but they are rather older...

Thanks I have googled everyone's suggestions, and whilst not come across the one I remember, there are some great ones here that I am going to try and get hold of for my own DD.
