How do you cook your sprouts?

Looking for inspiration suitable for a veggie, a fussily carnivorous husband and two moderately fussy kids.

Sautéed in butter. Removed a portion for the veggie and add crispy bacon lardons to the rest.

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 22/12/2020 18:47

Op you should have had them on to boil for at least a week already...

Depends what with. Steamed is nice, or roasted. Not boiled, they go like wet cotton buds!

Put them on now, low heat, be grand Friday Xmas Smile

Imapotato · 22/12/2020 18:48

I just boil them. Not cordon blue, but it’s how we like them. Dd1 is also a veggie so can’t add bacon unless I want to separate them. Frankly on Christmas so have enough things that need attention to be faffing with the sprouts.

Imapotato · 22/12/2020 18:49

Just don’t boil them for too long or they turn to mush!

Justa47 · 22/12/2020 18:49

@Procrastatron

Very Light boil, burn leaves and then with lardons and butter in a frying pan.

Took · 22/12/2020 18:50

In the airfryer. Coat in oil, salt and pepper. Mmm crispy sprouts.

Procrastatron · 22/12/2020 18:51

No lardons and Ocado delivery locked in. Anyone ever air-fried them?

ForTheLoveOfCatFood · 22/12/2020 18:51

GintyMcGinty · 22/12/2020 18:51

Husband boils for 5-10 mins and then roast them in oil and garlic. They are lovely.

Sexnotgender · 22/12/2020 18:53

I roast mine. Then grate over Parmesan when they’re out the oven.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 22/12/2020 18:53

Yes to air fryer! Absolutely gorgeous like pp said, with oil and salt and pepper.

JillyCareful · 22/12/2020 18:54

Par boil. Then sauté with baby mushrooms and chestnuts in butter and a splash of Madeira

ScrapThatThen · 22/12/2020 18:55

I am going to roast them with salt pepper and olive oil for 45 minutes.

PickAChew · 22/12/2020 18:57

It's too late to start them. They'll still be rock hard.

But if you must, cut them in half, boil for no more than 3 minutes in well salted water, drain, add knob of butter and a squeeze of pepper and keep them on the heat until they start to catch a little. Chucking a thickly sliced clove of garlic in there adds nicely - remove it at the end (if you must)

picklemewalnuts · 22/12/2020 18:58

Cook with just a little water until they are near enough done, add a knob of butter and spoonful of cream. Crush a few sprouts, then stir it all together.
Lovely creamy sprouts.

Paleodiet · 22/12/2020 18:59

Roasted with garlic and parmesan

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 22/12/2020 19:00

Cut in half. Short boil. Fry bacon (optional) in butter, add chestnuts and sprouts. Season. Yum

DriveThroughSwabber · 22/12/2020 19:05

Leave them in Tesco

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2020 19:14

Peel off the tougher outer leaves, put a little cross in the bottom, put in steamer for about 7 or 8 mins, douse liberally in unsalted butter and cracked black pepper. Serve with the streaky bacon (chopped up) that was over the turkey. All sprouts get eaten here.

Liking the garlic addition.
