Looking for inspiration suitable for a veggie, a fussily carnivorous husband and two moderately fussy kids.

Shred them and stir fry with Ginger and Orange rind

KittyMcKitty · 22/12/2020 19:17

I cut them in half, lightly steam and then sauté win butter with chestnuts.

nosswith · 22/12/2020 19:24

Remainer!

We have left the EU, you should not have them in your house. Respect the result of the referendum!

(oh if you do, make sure your family clean the toilet after use)

Veggi here. I par boil then finish off in white wine, butter, salt and pepper.

MacDuffsMuff · 22/12/2020 19:26

Steam them for a bit then finish them off with smoked bacon and chestnuts with butter.

LuciaLemon · 22/12/2020 20:02

I boil them in salted water for ten mins as I like them well done.

I know. I'm an animal

GuyFawkesDay · 22/12/2020 20:04

Halve. Boil for only a minute or two. Fry in butter with already crispy pancetta.

Mmmmmm

Labralion · 22/12/2020 20:06

I roasted mine last night as an experiment with balsamic and vinegar and oh my! Recommend!

sheldonsgreenwithenvy · 22/12/2020 20:08

My FIL (who was an excellent cook) used to steam them, then slice in half and let cool. He made a dressing of olive oil, lemon and mint, then topped with some crumbled feta cheese. Serve from the fridge as an antipasto.

It's the only way I like them now!!

Nowaynothappening · 22/12/2020 20:09

I pre-boil all of my veggies for 10 mins then roast them all in honey, thyme, salt and pepper.

BashfulClam · 22/12/2020 20:09

I don’t they are disgusting but really they should have been put on a low heat at the start of the first lockdown.

RickOShay · 22/12/2020 20:10

@LuciaLemon
Me too. I love a slightly soggy sprout.

Inaquandry19 · 22/12/2020 20:10

Roasted in 50/50 mix of oil and butter sprinkles with salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar

bellagogosdead · 22/12/2020 20:19

I like my vegetables pretty much as they are so I can enjoy them, so sprouts are cooked for 4 or 5 minutes in boiling water.

CraftyGin · 22/12/2020 20:19

Steam for 8 minutes.

Procrastatron · 22/12/2020 20:27

Thank you all. I’ve now realised how ill prepared for Christmas I am. I have checked the cupboards and I don’t have:
Mushrooms
Madeira
Chestnuts
Lardons
Lemon
Honey
I refuse to go to the supermarket now (Tier 4) so I’ll have to improvise. This has however highlighted that I don’t have a plan for the parsnips either 😩

BoJingle · 22/12/2020 20:30

I parboil them and then finish in a frying pan with butter and garlic

spagbog5 · 22/12/2020 20:32

Shred them finely and sauté in lots of butter, garlic and bacon lardons and sprinkle with crushed chestnuts and flaked rock salt .
Delicious

JorisBonson · 22/12/2020 20:33

I pop them in the bin at about 10am and leave them until bin day.

Thereshegoesagain · 22/12/2020 20:34

Shred them, then fry in butter with loads of Christmas herbs, sage, thyme, rosemary. Add chopped smoked streaky bacon or lardons, chopped chestnuts and stir in some cranberry sauce just before you serve.
Even brussel spout haters love this.

spagbog5 · 22/12/2020 20:35

I roast parsnips and carrots in orange/ clementine juice , butter ,black pepper , maple syrup and thyme until sticky if you need parsnip ideas .

inappropriateraspberry · 22/12/2020 20:39

Cut in half, drizzled with oil and just add salt and pepper, and roasted in the oven for 20-25 mins.I'm a veggie. I hate them boiled, but love them roasted. Sweet and tasty!

165EatonPlace · 22/12/2020 20:39

Microwave on full power for 4 mins.
I had some tonight with chicken curry ( no rice for me, replacing carbs with vegetables)

Ernieshere · 22/12/2020 20:39

I simmer them until nearly soft, then put in cold water to firm them back up.

Then add to a frying pan of cooked chopped bacon & garlic, add loads of single/double cream & warm through.

Saw it on t.v or online years ago.
