Can you help me? Do you recognise this children's book?

It is driving me mad! I am not sure if it is one of the Alfie and Annie Rose books. It is about a little boy who finds a stone somewhere and loves this stone. He names it and takes it everywhere. Then he goes to the beach with his family. His mum has made some clothes for the stone. He has the stone with him on the beach but when he comes home he realises he doesn't have the stone until eventually finding it the next day in a bucket from the beach. I have a little boy staying with me who I could see doing something like this! I want to get this book for him. Any ideas of what this book is?
