Why did I think white marzipan would be errr....white?

So a friend I made a cake for who doesn't like icing has a dirty cream coloured cake 🙄

How can marzipan be white when it’s made of ground almonds?

YesMeLady · 22/12/2020 11:56

it's the almonds and honey that make it that colour

justgeton · 22/12/2020 12:12

Yep, all very logical when you think about it. But it is 'white' marzipan and the box definitely shows white.

It's not a big problem of course.

Give it a heavy dusting of icing sugar.

Or white chocolate (which is also not white-white)

SoupDragon · 22/12/2020 12:14

It's white marzipan as opposed to yellow though.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/12/2020 12:15

Does it say in tiny writing 'marzipan shown with royal icing overlay' or some other disclaimer?

Tell you're friend it's the worthy natural unbleached version.

I now need to know what's in yellow marzipan to make it yellow? Colouring, or something else.

YesMeLady · 22/12/2020 12:21

there is white marzipan and golden marzipan

Comparing the ingredients of M&S white and golden marzipan, it's just colouring.

Well.

I've cut out some small white icing stars, added some gold fine glitter dust and a gold ribbon and it looks marvellous!

Pale yellow marzipan is what I wanted all along it seems! 😆😆

Too late now but if you mix the marzipan with a tiny bit of purple food colouring gel it turns white!
