How about this for some strategic incompetence?!

Our dishwasher is on the blink. Luckily no visitors due over Xmas.

DH wants to get someone in, I want to have a go at basic trouble shooting ourselves. It's integrated so have managed to get kickboards off in prep for pulling out to look at hoses etc but need help with the next bit.

DH tries 4/5 firms yesterday and , as suspected, no one can come out this side of the New Year!!

I'm on a Zoom upstairs last night, kiss kids goodnight and wander downstairs ready for a cup of tea and too much chocolate. Funny noise from the kitchen as I'm coming down.

DH has tried to investigate himself WITHOUT TURNING THE BLOODY WATER OFF and has disconnected the main cold water inlet Shock

It is pumping out at high speed all over the kitchen and I remember that last time we had a plumber in even he couldn't get the stopcock to turn - he has to use the one on the street.

So I run out in my socks in the dark and the rain but can't get the cover off so leg it back inside to the rapidly building lake in the kitchen and yell at DH to go and try whilst I bail.

Get a double bucket system going which is by no means perfect but gets the majority of it redirected down the sink but we are both dripping like we've been in a swimming pool.

My back is killing lifting heavy buckets every 10 seconds and it's still going.

Tell to DH to get help so he knocks our lovely but elderly neighbours who at least provide moral support and more buckets!!!!!

Tell him to ring his mate who's a plumber and who thank God picks up the phone and talks DH through the process of turning off the mains and the deluge finally slows to a trickle and then stops.

Fucking hell - what a night!

Spent a couple of hours then mopping / cleaning / rescuing and luckily doesn't seem to be any major damage. The first thing I did when I came down and surveyed the unfolding carnage was pick up DH's phone which he'd left on the floor Hmm

House is now covered with wet blankets / rugs / cloths / towels that all need washing, I've got a heater going full blast and window open to dry the floor out and a dishwasher stuck in the middle of the kitchen.

He's also managed to somehow move all the pipe work so I can't get the under sink drawer back in.

So now he is using this as the perfect evidence for why we should always get people in rather than fix it ourselves whereas I'm using it as evidence that he is a complete twat Grin

Still don't know if we've managed to sort the dishwasher and new ones are crazy expensive and long delays for most orders.

Roll on 2021!!!
