Did you ever sit outside the house of a pop star back in the day?

A very famous pop star in the 80s grew up near where I now live.
Some people who lived here at the time talked about how there used to be groups of girls sitting outside his parents house.
I remember this being a thing for lots of bands back in the 80s.

Did you do it?
How did the address get found out and circulated?

Never. Used to cringe when I saw it on tv!

BouleBaker · 21/12/2020 21:56

A minor pop star (short lived boy band member) lived on my mother in laws road. It was hilarious. They used to sit on the kerb and look longingly at his windows. If a car drove along they’d all leap up in case it was someone famous. Was usually Mrs White back with her crumpets from Sainsburys.

StanfordPines · 21/12/2020 21:57

It always looked desperate. Especially when it wasn’t their house but their parents house. What did they think would happen?

I didn't but I know someone who hung around outside Supernova Heights, Noel Gallagher's house in the 1990s. I think Noel came out in the end and told him to piss off.

I'm still lurking outside hotels (and sometimes in them) and I'm nearly 50!

HMSBeagle · 21/12/2020 22:00

Yes. Boy Geogre. But it was never for very long, just as part of a trip to his part of London and to the shops. I think the longest I managed was about a hour outside.

I was a school kid at the time

MenopausalMrs · 21/12/2020 22:00

I sat outside Five Stars house a few times 😂 They lived a few miles away from me during their heyday... Pretty sure that's not very rock and roll!!

Attictroll · 21/12/2020 22:03

No . But I love the story of how Boy George used to sit outside David Bowies 😀

Omeara · 21/12/2020 22:04

I used to go to Matt Goss’ flat in Maida Vale!

NowellSingWe · 21/12/2020 22:05

Ah @StanfordPines I bet it's the same as near me...Mark Owen?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/12/2020 22:07

No as it’s seems a bit sad. But maybe that is in the same category that I used to put people who cried when someone famous-that they clearly didn’t know, died-I considered that a bit daft... And that was until the sad day that George Michael died and I proper ugly sobbed on and off all day. I still tear up sometimes when I think of him😢

moglovesmincepies · 21/12/2020 22:08

There used to be loads outside Howard Donald's parents. The shop across must have done a roaring trade!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 21/12/2020 22:08

Yes, Simon Le Bon's dad's house. In my defence I was 15 at the time!

woodhill · 21/12/2020 22:09

Yes, I went to the road where Simon Le Bon livedSmile

Iamthewombat · 21/12/2020 22:09

Was usually Mrs White back with her crumpets from Sainsburys.

Brother Beyond? Weren’t two of those brothers with the surname White?

Iamthewombat · 21/12/2020 22:11

I never did it. Norway was a long journey for a teenager in the 1980s, otherwise I might have made a pilgrimage to Morten Harket’s log cabin.

Kendodd · 21/12/2020 22:13

I did!
Or well.. I once went with a friend so he could sit outside Boy George's house for a bit. It was actually quite a nice day out, we chatted to the other fans (my friend seemed to know some) then had a walk around the shops in Hamstead.

Elzbells · 21/12/2020 22:13

I knew where Bros lived. My grandad was besties with their grandparents. I never sat outside the house but I did meet them a few times and was given merchandise to impress my friends.

Boy George's house in the late 1980's I used to see him all the time. If he was home he used to come out and do photos and autographs, and get fans to go to the shops to buy records for him.
Also met some fans there who knew where Jon moss lived, and we went and knocked!! He came out and chatted for ages and let us get photos with him.

StormyInTheNorth · 21/12/2020 22:18

It was generally frowned upon in my circle of band fandom. I did end up in a few dressing rooms once upon a time but looking back I don't think I enjoyed it as much as it was cracked up to be.

ThatchersGapingVag · 21/12/2020 22:20

Wolf from Gladiator.

We got pissed as teenagers and crept into his garden and hid there hoping for a glimpse.

ThatchersGapingVag · 21/12/2020 22:21

Obvs not a pop star Grin

Schmoozer · 21/12/2020 22:22

George Michael had a house in our village mid 80’s
I used to walk past the huge gate slowly on my many dog walks past that house 😂😂
I also lived very near Richard Ashcroft’s huge country house in the mid 90’s
Again, I took dog walks through the public footpaths hoping for a bit of a nose !!
Never saw him though !!

FrankiesKnuckle · 21/12/2020 22:25
