Can I use a covid test that was meant for someone else?

I have an unused test (long story, pre school sent ds2 home, requested he have a test, no symptoms, I ordered test, they decided he didn't actually need one so I didnt use it, as I said, no symptoms and yes i had to lie on the online form to get it. That's another story)

So ds1 is coughing loads. We've all had a cold, no real cough but plenty of sneezing and snot, but this afternoon he is properly coughing, badly. We were due to go shopping but there's no way I'd take him out like it

Obvs I can try and get another test booked but have one there in the kitchen draw from a few weeks ago. Shall i just use it or is that a really bad idea?

I'm single with the 2 DC so we will all be at home regardless.

Isn’t it registered to someone else through a QR or barcode so only they would get the result?

BashfulClam · 21/12/2020 16:59

No the barcode will be registered to someone else. Can you get to a drive through place today? I got mine yesterday and the result this morning.

I thought you registered the test when you do it, so it wouldn’t be registered to anyone yet. Plus the barcode would only be registered to your household anyway, so I would use it.

We have at home tests at school and you register it when you open it and do the test.

Yes, it was for DS2, gave his details when booking it, I want to use it for DS1. Results would come to me as they are very young

I did a test today and you register it online just before you take the test.

ImFree2doasiwant · 21/12/2020 17:30

@corlan a home test?

Yes - a home test. There should be a booklet included with the test that tells you what to do.

Thismustbelove · 21/12/2020 17:37

Yes I did exactly that. The result is the important thing.

Great, thank you. I'll use it.
