What food would you start a punch up in the supermarket over?

(Title inspired by another thread - don't actually start one)

What is so essential you couldn't get through Christmas without? And how far would you go to ensure you got it?

OP posts:

Not Christmas but in general.

Bacon brunch. My kids love it and there is none to be had in the two Sainsbury's I have tried.

RumJerrySailorRum · 21/12/2020 18:31

@Thisusernameistakenagain

Why has nobody yet said wineGrin
I buy mine in bulk from Makro, to ensure that I never run out 😂

Thank you self employed DB for getting me a card

ChristmasBubble · 21/12/2020 18:32

Not quite the question but I cried when my sister said as she wasn't expecting to host me for Christmas (I'm in a support bubble with her) that she hasn't got Christmas food in so we'd be having things like pizza.

She has now been to a supermarket and I plan to get some stuff on my way too.

I'd probably fight over a cooked ham on the bone.

mrshonda · 21/12/2020 18:35

Red Leicester cheese. There'd be a standoff in the dairy aisle if anyone else had got the last block.

lazylinguist · 21/12/2020 18:37

Sorry to be obvious... but turkey. Grin I know all the other bits are important, but we've usually got enough stuff in the house to cobble together the rest of the Christmas lunch in one way or another!

Oh and champagne. I don't drink much these days, but I'd be sad not to have a couple of glasses of fizz on Christmas Day.

PeppaPigMakesMeGrrrrr · 21/12/2020 18:45

KP Cheese Footballs. I buy them in bulk around the festive season!

MsTSwift · 21/12/2020 18:46

Last year I got the last bottle of stones ginger wine in Waitrose ....

HebeJeeby · 21/12/2020 18:49

pigs in blankets and those prawn tempura canapés things.

Anniecott · 21/12/2020 19:06

As an add on to my previous post I would actually start a punch up over a Lindt chocolate Santa, had one on my home delivery, for my afore mentioned asd sons stocking, he has one every yr, it's now out of stock, can't get one on Amazon, I'm in tier4 so all shops bar supermarkets shut, I've asked him (he's 17) if it matters and yes it does as it's routine, I'm now gonna have to go to all local supermarkets tomorrow to try and find one in the middle of a an apocalypse cause everyone is panic buying, hubby tried today but 1 queue was an 1 and 1/2 just to get in 😩

SunscreenCentral · 21/12/2020 19:07

Good Cheese and Good coffee.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/12/2020 19:08

Cheese, all of the cheese.

MrsT1405 · 21/12/2020 19:09

I once saw someone cry over the last coleslaw being snatched from under her nose!

Peanutbutterblood · 21/12/2020 19:11

Frozen peas, I cant be without them, must go through a kg every week or 2.

UselessTrees · 21/12/2020 19:22

@Anniecott the Lindt figures do seem to have suddenly gone out of stock everywhere. I kept meaning to buy two of the bigger sized bears for the DC, now they've disappeared. Managed to find the medium sized ones in WHSmith on a 3 for 2 today.

I also spent way too long today looking for Twiglets (but didn't wrestle anyone to get them).

lazylinguist · 21/12/2020 19:28

I once saw someone cry over the last coleslaw being snatched from under her nose!

Hopefully she made her own instead, realised how easy it is to make, and never wasted her money on that slimy, over-sweet shop-bought stuff again. Grin

starfish4 · 21/12/2020 19:28

Another one for wine here

LadyJaye · 21/12/2020 19:29

Waitrose are doing a Heston Bloody Mary prawn cocktail thing ATM and I have based my starter around it.

I'm a relatively competent cook and could probably work it out, but I'm also lazy, so if they're all out on Xmas Eve, I will get THE RAGE.

@CisMyArse

My gentle, pacifist daughter would probably put you in a headlock for a jar of Nutella Grin
My gentle, shy daughter would do the same!
Pixie2015 · 21/12/2020 19:32

Last bottle of ketchup

DontBeShelfish · 21/12/2020 19:36

Sacla green pesto. No doubt at all.

Sunshinedrops85 · 21/12/2020 19:40

Lindt chocolate 40g bars.
Grilled artichoke
Cheddar & brie .

Ginkypig · 21/12/2020 19:41

@Lonelycrab

Cucumber for my ds; he’s autistic and will not eat much else that’s green.

And sour cream and chive spread for me- it goes with practically anything 😋

What is sour cream and chive spread?
Paranoidmarvin · 21/12/2020 19:47

Chocolate cheese cake.

ultrababy · 21/12/2020 19:48

@Anniecott does it have to be a Santa? I have a bear I can send you? Mine won’t mind. X

Lonelycrab · 21/12/2020 19:50

What is sour cream and chive spread?

It’s sour cream and chives. Surprisingly Grin
