Recommend me a vacuum cleaner please!

I know that there are millions of these threads but please indulge me with some up-to-date recommendations!

Our 7-year-old Dyson has given up the ghost so I'm looking for a new vacuum cleaner. I vacuum a lot, usually daily due to DC & Dog. We have a mixture of carpet and hard floors plus stairs!

I'm keen on a cordless, but this would be the only vacuum in the house so it needs to be robust enough for the job. I have seen a lot of people on other threads 'love their Shark' - but which one?

All recommendations, with model, if possible welcome!

I love my Shark. I don't have cordless as don't like being tied to run times etc. Biggest plus is anti-hairwrap tech - complete gamechanger as we have 4 people with long hair. Works equally well on my hard floors and carpets. Canister comes off for easy lightweight stair and upholstery etc cleaning. Can also take off to lie flat for under beds. Really easy to empty. Edge to edge capability is excellent. Comparatively quiet.

Minor niggle would be that you do need to clean the roll bar occasionally and it doesn't lie as flat as others for low furniture.

Much lighter, cleaner and easier to empty and maintain than my old Dyson. Also sticks to sucking dirt out the carpets rather than pulling all the DC's artwork off the walls unlike my Dyson.

Excellent thank you, is it a lift away?

My Miele is brilliant and cheaper than most. It isn’t cordless but is drag along on the floor so much lighter.

I also have a Bosch cordless which is amazing...much more powerful than expected and again - reasonable.

Our third vacuum cleaner is a vax which is crap and I hate it. It is cordless but the weight distribution means it won’t stand up, it picks little up and the battery lasts for 5 mins before dying.

RubyReigns · 21/12/2020 11:57

I’ve just bought a shark lift away in the Black Friday sale.
Admittedly I was swayed by all the shark fanatics. It wasn’t the game changer I thought it would be but it is a decent vacuum and it cleans both carpet and hard floor very well.
Anti hair wrap is great if you run it over hard floor after carpet.
It is however the heaviest vac I have ever owned. Even as a lift away it is much heavier than my cordless vax.
It does have great suction though and is relatively easy to steer and empty.

Miele cat and dog, I have the cylinder version. And seriously if it broke I would buy another instantly.

It picks up brilliantly it is very hard wearing, we've got five cats and you can't tell (for about five minutes after I've finished hoovering then they come along and leave clumps of fur everywhere again.

It uses a dust bag but one lasts about six months and a pack of four cost £20. I prefer the bags as you can remove and drop in bin without dust flying everywhere. Something I hated about the Dyson.

It's fairly light and very easy to use on stairways and small spaces I really really love my miele.

My personal experience of had held stick vacuums has been dire, they don't pick up much, and run out of charge very quickly.

Sebo. I wouldn't buy anything else. We were given a Shark Liftaway and I hate it. The dust container is tiny, with a moulting dog I have to empty it several times. There's a horrible dust and pet hair cloud when you tip it in the bin, the canister is permanently dirty, and cleaning the filter is a revolting job. Yes it's got lights and you can take it apart in 97 ways, but performance and cleanliness wise, it's miles behind my trusty Sebo.

Loving my shark. Had it a month now and it's so handy being cordless.

Dinnafashyersel · 21/12/2020 12:18

Yes it is a liftaway.

Ardnassa · 21/12/2020 12:29

Following as mine has just died after 17 years' hard labour.

TokyoSushi · 22/12/2020 13:01

I've just bought a Shark lift away, will report back if any good!

I have a lift away and it doesn't work on my carpets. Even on min 'suck' setting it won't move, it's like it's too powerful and I can't push it over the carpet. I only have normal carpets, not long ones!

I've been in a battle for months over it with them

TokyoSushi · 22/12/2020 14:23

I've just spent 45 minutes hoovering the whole house. I can confirm that I agree with it being heavy, but I love it! I agree it has super suction, but it looks like it's going to work for me!!

Sebo every time, where I brought my carpets from they recommended a Sebo as its really good on thick carpet as the front of the hoover rises, would never buy anything else

Rebecca75 · 22/12/2020 15:16

Miele c3!! It's brilliant, and bagged - I don't often change the bag and it means no more emptying the canister or cleaning out the filter. We have 2 kids, cat, dog, wood, tiles, carpet. Love it

AgnesNaismith · 22/12/2020 17:54

Ah yes the Miele C3 is what I have too...couldn’t remember the name. I bought it following recommendations on here.

Sn0tnose · 22/12/2020 19:27

I’ve got a lift away Shark with the anti hair wrap thing. I was expecting to be wowed and it’s good, but not as good as I was expecting.

I definitely wouldn’t buy another Dyson.

Anurulz · 22/12/2020 19:35

Shark liftaway with anti hair wrap.. got it on Black Friday sale and man oh man it's heavy but it literally can suck up every speck of dust. I do need to empty it before I take it upstairs but I had to do so even with my previous cordless.. I do like the suction and the anti hair wrap saves me soooo much time cutting through the hair stuck on the roller after running it..
