How to get Covid test

I keep hearing about people going for tests, sometimes more than once, with minimal symptoms and i just wondered how they were able to do that? I've looked into getting a test recently as a work colleague tested positive this weekend after having just a headache and aching muscles. My DH and I both have these symptoms and whilst it's likely to be a cold, due to my colleague's positive test, I wanted to get one just to be sure. The thing is the booking system only seems to let you book one if you have one of the 3 main symptoms which is fine but how are others getting them? I'm not going to lie or exaggerate but short of paying £125 for a private one i can't see how it's possible?

I know headaches and muscle pain are not symptoms but I've heard more and more people saying a headache was their only symptom before getting a positive test and because my colleague had had this experience I just wanted to be safe.

The symptoms might be minimal, but nonetheless tick the box as Covid symptoms (eg slight temperature, a bit of a cough rather than raging fever, or hacking up half a lung).

Or else people lie.

People lie obviously! But if you genuinely think you may have COVID then I would lie to get tested. It's people lying to get a test without any sort of symptoms or just so they feel better about visiting granny that is wrong in my opinion.
