Hi

Xmas plans have changed we're staying home just the three of us. I would like to buy a turkey what's my chances if I go on the 23rd that they'll have fresh ones to buy?:)

Difficult to say this year as it's such an anomaly, but they've always had them in store when I've been on the 24th in previous years.

carryme · 20/12/2020 15:06

Thank you 😊

I guess if they don't we can just have a chicken :)

This year has been so batshit I wouldn't hedge your bets on scoring a fresh turkey so close to Xmas day. My turkey crown is currently snuggled up in the freezer.
If having turkey is important to you I would say buy now whether fresh or frozen and stash away Smile

Don't know about this year but I used to buy one half price, on boxing day.

Horsemad · 20/12/2020 18:05

Loads in my local M&S but whether they'll have many left by 23rd, I'm not sure... Buy it as soon as possible OP!

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 20/12/2020 18:10

We are having chicken. Nothing flash. Just treating Christmas like a Sunday dinner.

DonkeyMcFluff · 20/12/2020 18:14

You’ll be lucky to get a turkey. Millions of turkeys culled due to bird flu, shortage of workers to process them due to Covid, increased demand due to more people cooking individual dinners at home. Lots of supermarkets are sold out of turkeys due to shortages.

Jade308 · 20/12/2020 18:19

Loads in my local. Got one today, good until 27th. Was fairly quiet and they had loads of Xmas stock

Kolo · 20/12/2020 18:36

I wouldn't wait if I didn't have to. They can't just build more turkeys now everyone is staying at home and wanting a turkey for each family (almost).

Perfect28 · 20/12/2020 18:44

Buy tomorrow? The dates will be fine. I got a chicken yesterday that lasts until boxing day

carryme · 20/12/2020 20:22

Thanks everyone I have a funeral tomorrow but will try and call in tomorrow night and see if I can grab one :)

OP posts:
Kez200 · 20/12/2020 21:07

Another problem will be sizes. Likely to be harder to get the smaller ones as we will not be catering for masses like usual.

carryme · 21/12/2020 13:40

Has anybody ventured today? :) just back from the funeral - just trying to locate some energy to go :)

DappledOliveGroves · 21/12/2020 13:48

Can't comment on M&S - though they had loads in stock yesterday, but just been to Aldi today and there's loads of turkey options there.

carryme · 21/12/2020 13:57

Brill thanks Olive will get myself out and see what I can find x

I was in M&S this morning at 6am and the Turkey shelves were healthily stocked. Hope your local M&S trip is a success for you.

LeSquigh · 21/12/2020 15:07

All our supermarkets have plenty of turkey, including M&S where I got mine from. The date on it is the 27th so buy it now!

carryme · 21/12/2020 18:08

Turkey purchased- it was so quiet! Hope you all have a lovely Christmas 🎄

OP posts:
Chaby · 21/12/2020 18:18

It will be fine in the 23rd, plenty of stock

Justmuddlingalong · 21/12/2020 18:21

The way this year's been, I would think that you all having a leg each wouldn't be a shock.

Popcornismandatory · 21/12/2020 22:32

Glad you got sorted with your turkey @carryme and condolences for your loss DaffodilThanks
Hope you and yours have a lovely Christmas

Horsemad · 22/12/2020 09:43

When I opened the fridge door last night, something smelled a bit 'meaty' - not sure if it's the turkey, (M&S) and hoping the blasted thing isn't going off... Shock The date is 27th, so it should be fine.
