Please recommend a car

I need help! We have to buy a car, old one has died. It was only a Citroen C1 - we had a baby this year so it was too small anyway.

There is me, Dh, seven year old and a teen. Not that we all go out together regularly, but it would be nice if we had a car we can all fit in.

Car is mainly used for Dd school which is 2 miles away, a monthly trip to collect/drop off my dad 200 miles away and when this shitshow is over, Dh will have to drive 200 mile round trip over two days to show his face in the office for a day (wfh rest of time).

I need a car that will fit all 5 of us in if needed, but that is good on petrol and no astronomical in insurance.

Looking to spend 3k, 3.5 max.

Any Recommendations please?

Peugeot 308sw... ours is a diesel and does 60mpg and just keeps on going.. it''s got 100k on the clock now but its so reliable and as an estate the boot is fab.
I also loved the Renault scenic..another decent (but not too big) size for a 3 child family. It was a no fuss, reliable car!

5 series estate? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012127034295

Citron grand Picasso. Mine is 13 now, done over 100k and is a real workhorse. Diesel for preference and easily fits my 3 very tall teens in the back.

Thank you, I'll have a look at all these. I've heard the vaxhaul people carriers are good as well.

Dd is in a high back booster and the baby in an extended rear facing seat - plus we would need to fit the teen in the middle (I'm far too fat Blush).

I’d be looking at something Japanese, big enough to do those longer journeys in comfort.

I’d suggest: Toyota Avensis (saloon or estate) or Toyota Verso which is more people carrier.

Honda FRV is funny-looking but very well-packaged and spacious inside. Seats six in two rows of three, very clever.

Honda Accord would be another possibility.
