What’s everyone doing with the dc over Christmas?

OP posts:
TheRubyRedshoes · 20/12/2020 12:58

Struggling.

Try to play some family games, hard with a fresh teen... Lots of ginger bread stuff, hopefully if the weather is clement, walks.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 20/12/2020 13:02

Letting them chill out after a difficult half term at school.

Maybe a few walks in the dark. I might buy some white paper plates and get them to make angels and snowflakes? I'll probably watch Xmas films and read stories with them as well.

Christmastime4 · 20/12/2020 13:08

What games?

OP posts:
Christmastime4 · 20/12/2020 14:43

Any ideas for games?

BrieAndChilli · 20/12/2020 14:54

I ordered this: www.thegiftandgadgetstore.com/product/dont-get-got-christmas-edition/

Going to make gingerbread.
Christmas films

We have lots of other board games - one that have been hits during lockdown- exploding kittens, banangrams, pandemic, Scotland Yard, family trivial pursuit, the sock game (could make your own version of this), cards against humanity family edition

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 20/12/2020 14:58

Relaxing, baking day tomorrow, got a couple of new jigsaw in, a couple of walks, maybe they'll play out dunno. They're a bit older (11+12) so not as much entertaining needed as younger ones.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 20/12/2020 14:59

Oh I've ordered a new game too - Outsmarted. We like exp!doing kittens too.

FreeButtonBee · 20/12/2020 15:15

It’s a whirlwind of as many south London playgrounds as we can find. I literally can’t handle another soggy lucky walk around our local one (and they have conveniently decided to redo the playground and regrass a massive area - which will be nice when it’s done - but come on we’re in a pandemic and can’t go anywhere!)

Films after lunch. Lots of Lego/card games/baking. Long long baths.

Christmastime4 · 20/12/2020 18:02

Very little. I am exhausted after a year of being our families entertainments officer

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/12/2020 18:11

DH hoping to take them out in the canoe one day, weather permitting. Considering a month of Disney+. Lots of craft kits and Lego lined up. Baking. Making our first trifle since we can't go to grandparents now.
Watching the Railway Children stage version on YouTube tomorrow (search for #theshowsmustgoon). Available for 48hrs from 2pm.

trilbydoll · 20/12/2020 18:14

We opened Agricola today and it was really good. Too hard for the 5yo but once we'd got our heads round it our 7yo loved it. Tbh me and dh could happily play it without the kids.

We've got ticket to ride in a box for Xmas eve, so a lot of board games in the next couple of weeks!

MeMarmiteYouJam · 20/12/2020 18:15

We are locked down due to Covid exposure, so we will be indoors for the foreseeable. I am planning diy to keep sane. The children are very good at entertaining themselves. We will relax and chat and play as much as possible, but I am very much of the benign neglect sort of parenting style and expect them to entertain themselves. This often leads to interesting cardboard constructions and piles of paintings. As well as minecraft creations, of course.

ChristmasStartedAlready · 20/12/2020 18:22

We have the London version of ticket to ride for Christmas. Really tempted to get it out this week. Played Labyrinth today.

Planning on lots of board games and walks.

Watching the Railway Children stage version on YouTube tomorrow (search for #theshowsmustgoon). Available for 48hrs from 2pm. great tip thanks.

SillyOldMummy · 20/12/2020 18:28

Had a mad pillow fight with DD yesterday, it was her last day of 10 days of isolation.

Went for a bike ride today.

Had a Duplo battle (we have a vast box of Duplo) where first we had to see who could design the tallest tower, then we had to build indestructible towers and tried to knock each other's down by throwing cushions, with 1 minute to try to rebuild and redesign between rounds. Incredibly, we filled an entire 90mins with this nonsense.

Tomorrow, baking banana bread and making mini pizzas. Recording some Carol singing to email to grandparents who we now cannot see due to being in Tier 4.

Basically making it up as we go along. I might try and do a winter-themed scavenger hunt outside as we live near some woodland.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 20/12/2020 18:32

I am 38 weeks pregnant and have a 4 year old

I've spent a fortune on craft kits from baker Ross that I'm hoping will be doable fir him

We have plans to make gingerbread

Ive ordered twister for him to play with his Dad.

We are watching Tom abd Jerry nutcracker on repeat.

Xmas day we will have a snowball fight with some artificial snowballs I bought on Amazon

skankingpiglet · 20/12/2020 20:26

DCs will be writing a brief diary entry of the previous day and doing 10/15 mins of maths each day plus DD2 will have a quick daily run through of her phonics. I also have planned a few science experiments (DD1 is science mad), they have a gingerbread house kit each to make and decorate, and I had bought some jigsaws and Operation some time ago in case we had to isolate/lock down, so those will be coming out. We already have a selection of board and card games, and I'm sure they will all get an outing over the holidays. The weather is looking pretty ropey here this week, but if we get a dry few hours we will either go to the park or take their bikes to a local walk that has paths perfect for cycling beginners. If we run out of things to do I will dust off the train set or marble run. And if things get really desperate the crafting box will come out < shudder > . I don't plan on doing more than 3 hours per day of structured activities, as I have a lot to do to the house and DCs need a fair amount of downtime, so they will likely spend a good few hours each day playing together or watching films.
The post-Xmas part of the holidays will be much easier as they will (hopefully!) be happily occupied with their new things.

TravellingSpoon · 20/12/2020 21:22

We are going to a drive in cinema on boxing day.

Harry Potter Cluedo and Friends Monopoly.

Looking forward to watching Roald and Beatrix on Christmas Eve.

DH has bought the Jumanji board game for Christmas day. As if living through a real life version of it isn't enough we will spend our tier 4 Christmas playing it. Xmas Confused

LuvMyBoyz · 21/12/2020 18:04

Local Treasure Trails from TreasureTrails.co.uk. Honest, I don’t work for them but love to do them. Fresh air, bit of a walk (usually about 2.5 miles) and learning a bit about the area while having a bit of fun.

AIMD · 21/12/2020 18:07

We will try and get outside once a day to walk to the woods or park or to walk after dark looking at lights. I will find any excuse to get them out (walk to tesco for milk, or to pair box).
At home I’ll try spending time playing with them and then try encouraging them to play alone while I tidy and do chores.

We did a sleep over on the living room in their tee pee - that was fun!

I asked them to decorate some paper for me to use as wrapping paper.

Just doing simple things really. Might do a fire in the garden.

I also might loose my marbles!
