Idris Elba and Paul McCartney

I know he’s popular, and I’m sure he’s a nice chap, maybe he’s nervous, but Idris is awful at ‘interviewing.’
Paul MCCartney - full of stories and anecdotes, a natural storyteller and totally relaxed.
Idris Elba - trying be to act cool and relaxed but has nothing interesting to say. Nothing.
Painful. Is it just me?!?

Being forced to watch this as DH is a Beatles fan.

By gum it's dull.

Toughie · 19/12/2020 22:13

What does your DH think as a Beatles fan?

Paul is great but Idris is adding nothing to this programme other than being hunkily gorgeous.

adawong · 19/12/2020 22:19

He is awful at everything acting , interviewing and singing on that shit Sky ad.

picklemewalnuts · 19/12/2020 22:19

I saw a trail for this and the only interest I could summon was... How come they are sitting on the same sofa?

Seriously, can someone explain? I'm sure they will have taken measures, but...

IndecentFeminist · 19/12/2020 22:20

Really dull. Idris was totally flat.

PerkingFaintly · 19/12/2020 22:22

Oh I enjoyed it! Turned on in the middle by accident, stayed as it seemed a bit fun.

Maybe no expectations was the way to go?

Toughie · 19/12/2020 22:25

Maybe, but I had no expectations!
I’ve always though Elba was overrated. Agree he is an average actor at best.

Idris was star struck, he should've sorted that out before starting but I enjoyed it. Paul is great.

curlyrebel · 19/12/2020 22:33

I didn't think Idris was that bad. He asked all the right questions, got the best out of SPM and kept the conversation going.

2bazookas · 19/12/2020 22:35

No. The interview was so painfully bad I had to turn it off.

HeartZone · 19/12/2020 22:36

Was dire switched off.

2bazookas · 19/12/2020 22:42

It's a pity they didn't get Grayson Perry, he's a very impressive interviewer who makes a staged conversation look entirely natural... I'm hoping he'll get more TV work after his "America " series .

longwayoff · 20/12/2020 08:45

Idris Elba has great screen presence. He's a passable actor. Why on earth was he doing the interview? Are we short of people who are trained to do this? Utterly bewildering.

Lottapianos · 20/12/2020 08:47

'He is awful at everything acting , interviewing and singing on that shit Sky ad.'

Totally agree. Gorgeous bloke but such an overrated actor

TodgerStrunk · 20/12/2020 08:53

The best SPM interview I ever heard was years ago on Virgin radio with Geoff Lloyd. Geoff was genuinely in love with him which was clear throughout and so sweet to hear. But he also begged SPM to sing "Geoff" instead of "Jet" in the concert later because it was his birthday, and they had a recording of all of the Jet bits that night and Geoff was frantically trying to convince himself that at least one of them was a Geoff not a Jet, while Pete Mitchell laughed at him. That's how you approach interviewing someone you here worship Grin

scentedgeranium · 20/12/2020 08:55

It was squirmy. Idris twice repeated that he and Stella were 'close' with exactly the same turn of phrase and I though oh has my Signal gone down and it's repeating? Weird.

Lottapianos · 20/12/2020 09:29

And did I dream the bit where Idris played chords on a guitar and got Paul to listen and name them? Jesus Christ, what a plum (if it really happened)
