Singing Silent Night on Christmas Eve

Is anyone else planning on singing Silent Night from their doorsteps on Christmas Eve at 7pm?
Seen it advertised as Carol for Wales but think we need some good cheer spread across the whole of the UK with the news today.

No I fking ain't. Too tired from jingling me farking bells at 6pm. Enough!

Ultimateblends · 19/12/2020 21:55

Absolutely not. Whole 'stand at your door and be a knob' stuff is getting out of hand.

The clapping was one thing, and it had its moment. I wish everyone would stop trying to start these things.

ILoveMyMonkey · 19/12/2020 21:56

@FlibbertyGiblets 🤣😂.

@Tiggles Silent night is a lovely carol but always makes me cry, singing it on a doorstep will not cheer me up.

I'm more likely to stand on my doorstep to give a very rousing rendition of 'Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher' from Billy Elliot changing her name to Boris Johnsons'.

Alternatively I'll throw my Christmas tree into the road whilst drinking the copious amounts of alcohol we had bought for the family.

TBD.

DP and I play in a brass band, and two other members live across the street - so we will be providing some carols for the neighbours from our doorsteps on Christmas Eve. Whether they like it or not! Haha.

Tiggles · 19/12/2020 22:11

That sounds fab @lindaellen

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 19/12/2020 22:23

No, I need dd to get to sleep!

FiveToFour · 19/12/2020 22:23

IMO Silent Night is not the best carol if you are not a brill singer.Which I am not, sadly.

HappyHomeWorker · 19/12/2020 22:25

Christ almighty, no!!!

peppita · 19/12/2020 22:25

No I thought we left all of that shite in the spring 😫

CherryPavlova · 19/12/2020 22:26

I suspect if I did it would encourage people to drive long distances to a tier four area from our tier two.

cataline · 19/12/2020 22:26

Sounds like a bloody awful idea.

And can you imagine how furious people will be if they've just got their hyper, excited kids off to bed and the frigging neighbours start warbling - or worse still, tooting their sodding trumpets?! GrinWink

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 19/12/2020 22:27

Maybe instead they could change the rules to allow the emergency services staff who are working Xmas eve and Xmas day actually meet up with their families at Christmas.

I think that would mean much more to them than vacuous singing.

cataline · 19/12/2020 22:27

And I say this as someone who absolutely LOVES a brass band.

Ha I knew exactly which carol it was, didn't even need to look in my book!

So long as we steer clear of the mad road-map arrangements at the back of the book we'll be grand!

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/12/2020 22:30

Thumbs up!

Oh behave, the kids will love it (and what kid is asleep at 4.30 on Christmas Eve?)
LindaEllen · 19/12/2020 22:30

^ that's when we're planning to play I mean.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/12/2020 22:35

LindaEllen put a bucket out for folk to pop donations for the band in, safely distanced from aerosolised droplets of course. You might be surprised how many notes and coins might find their way in....
