What is discord? What's it used for? Thanks

If it’s a child that wants it I’d say avoid. It’s like a chat/messaging app.

AnathemaPulsifer · 18/12/2020 22:35

It’s used for chatting - either video or text - and is often used alongside gaming.

Ah. Should I be worried?

LadyAcony · 18/12/2020 22:38

I wouldn’t have thought so OP, no.

LadyAcony · 18/12/2020 22:38

There are groups there for absolutely everything.

ivyjoy · 18/12/2020 22:39

Good Thankyou. Didn't know if it was another way of communicating with her.

It is most often used by younger people for voice chat while gaming.

But it is a text and call messaging app that can be used for any purpose.

ivyjoy · 18/12/2020 22:40

Hmmm maybe I should worry then. We aren't particularly young and not huge gamers.

It’s a messaging/chat app generally associating with gaming. I use it with my gaming friends when we want to voice chat as we play something together. It integrates with games a lot easier than, for example, Skype.

ivyjoy · 18/12/2020 22:46

Just not sure if I should ask him what it is as can't access it

My 10 year old DS is bugging me asking for this app. I've been reading about it and can't decide Hmm

ivyjoy · 18/12/2020 22:50

Just wasn't sure as not very tech minded but this is only thing locked. He's letting me look at phone when I want but still a little paranoid (all v new)

My child had this app. I let them get it for chatting with friends while gaming but I then discovered they had got into an inappropriate relationship and had been sexting through the app. So yes you can definitely use it for that purpose. The app bypassed all the internet filters.

BertieBotts · 18/12/2020 23:27

He's locked it? Sounds like he is hiding something, sorry.

DownWhichOfLate · 18/12/2020 23:28

I think that you need to check his phone and (very understandably) don’t trust him is more of an issue.
