I've posted a few times about my experience on citalopram and always interested to hear if or how it worked for others.

I was prescribed it a few months ago for situational anxiety and panic attacks. I was on 10mg for a month or so and felt no different so it was increased to 20mg. I was still skeptical because it sounded like they were geared more towards depression than anxiety but this week I'm very cautiously thinking I might finally be beginning to see progress.

I wrongly thought citalopram would just get rid of my anxiety like magic but it hasn't (obviously). I still panic before I have to go to the shops and so on. But whereas before I let the panic control me, my mood feels brighter and that makes me feel stronger so that I can face the anxiety and do it anyway. Does that make sense?

I really hope this continues. I wonder if anyone else has had success with it? Did it work this way for you?

It has worked for me for anxiety. Pleased to say gave now gone down to 10mg. Just about used to lower dose now.

AuldWan · 18/12/2020 15:59

I am on it for about 3 months now. First 10mg then up to 15mg. Not a miracle cure, but it helps a lot. Wondering about raising the dose again to 20 mg.

Funny, I was just thinking about anxiety, and how I find it an embarrassing affliction. That I am somehow worth less than a confident person. Sorry to detail the thread!

Yes its working for me very well, I've stopped being tearful all the time the anxiety has stopped and I feel much more level.
I still have side effects though.
Tiredness, my eyes feel like I've rubbed sand in them and I get indigestion very easily.

Wotrewelookinat · 18/12/2020 16:13

I had post natal depression with the main feature of anxiety and citalopram 20mg worked really well for me. It was definitely a gradual process over a few weeks/months.

ME TOO!

Good to hear it has worked for so many people. I think I was expecting a miracle cure like my anxiety would just disappear and that's not the case. I still have the same illogical thought processes that make me panic. But I feel stronger and more able to deal with it iyswim

I absolutely hate the stuff.

Im pleased its working well for you, I went up to 40mg a few weeks ago and I'm finding my anxiety is finally easing up a bit so 🤞

LunaNorth · 18/12/2020 16:59

It’s absolutely saved me and I think I’ll be on it for life.

Happyface120 · 18/12/2020 18:35

Yep, proper miracle drug for me. I take 20mg for PMDD and it has totally transformed my life. Find it harder to lose weight now, but other than that, no side effects. Would much rather be fat and happy than slim and suicidal...

Flyingpig47 · 18/12/2020 20:56

It's weird I can't quite describe how it's helping but I think it is. As I said my anxiety and panic are still there but in general I feel brighter and more able to cope...
