I've been unemployed for nearly a whole year :(

I have been unemployed for nearly a whole year. I graduated in January and have not been able to get a job since. There are barely any jobs to apply to and what I have been applying to I just keep getting rejection after rejection from. I don't think my self-esteem can take anymore rejection but I am trying not to take it personally.

I worked so hard at university and I didn't expect to just walk into a job but I didn't expect it to be this hard. :( I have a first and a distinction. I feel like a complete failure.

Sorry, just needed to vent.

Wow Smile that’s great news, congratulations!

TheCattleGrid · 17/12/2020 23:29

Hahaha!! That's fantastic! After a year I guess you kind of give up checking emails every 5 minutes. Funny how life can surprise you with something good just when you feel like giving up. Get that acceptance email sent...is it in your chosen field??

I graduated in 2017 and did an apprenticeship to get in. It was the only acceptance. Degrees mean fuck all now apparently.

Aim lower, sorry.

Wahoo, hugest Congratulations to you!

I was coming on to post, and I will still say it in case anyone else reading this is in a similar position - University Career Departments are really great people to talk to if you are in this position. They have a lot of alumni networks and are great at advising on CVs and Cover Letters.

Papergirl1968 · 18/12/2020 14:22

Congratulations!

sadgrad · 18/12/2020 14:58

Thank you everyone! I'm so happy, I start in January. :D I can't believe when I was writing the OP I had a job offer sitting in my inbox waiting!

It is a job I really wanted as it's in my field and kind of combines two of my areas of interest so I am really happy. :)

Awesome! But remember don't feel ashamed of being unemployed -it is much easier to become unemployed than to get a job .

Momsincharge · 18/12/2020 16:48

Glad to hear it! Just remember there will be ups and downs in the job. Everyone feels overwhelmed at times, just keep hanging in there and you will grow and learn a lot.
