Why are iPhone cameras so crap?!

I've been using Apple products for about 7 years. With a phone, Mac book, iMac, AirPods and Apple Watch it's fair to say I'm now a slave to the brand!

I love the fact that all my devices are linked and I find them reliable, user friendly etc BUT

Why are the cameras so inferior to other camera phones on the market??

I currently have an XR, and the picture quality is just so poor compared to Samsungs and Huawei

Apple should be at the top of the game surely?

Isn't the XR the budget version? Are you comparing it to flagship phones from other brands?

I've had it for just over a year, not top of the range but still boasts about the impressive camera, which was supposed to be better than 8 I had previously (it isn't) . DH has the 11pro but the camera still has nothing on other brands.

My brother has a Samsung (not top of the range) and it takes infinitely better photos

That's why I switched from an iPhone to a Huawei P30 Pro. The camera is fantastic. I took some photos of people at work and sent them to our PR agency who asked if they'd been taken with an SLR, nope, just the phone. The automatic portrait mode is brilliant.

I went over to Samsung from Apple and was very pleasantly surprised by my photo quality. The screen looks better as well. I prefer Samsung now.
