DS turning 3 in Jan - how to celebrate?

My DS is turning 3 in January.

It's such a difficult thing to plan because I don't know what the COVID restrictions will be post Christmas.

I know a party is out of the question, I'm thinking more along the lines of a family day out somewhere, but it seems a lot of the bigger amusement parks (like Legoland) are closed until Spring.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can make his birthday special? How did you celebrate in lockdown with your little ones?

We live in South Bucks.

There are plenty of beautiful parts of the River Thames to visit, perhaps have a picnic at.

DS1 turned 4 in the first lockdown (when you could only go outside for exercise)

He woke up to a pirate map for a treasure hunt around the house with 4 presents, one was a little skateboard which we went out to exercise on.

Then for lunch we had a living room teddybears pic nic just us 4 (we have a baby as well) and the teddys with lots of party food.

We had a lovely day Smile

I’ve celebrated ds1’s 3rd birthday in the first lockdown and ds2’s 2nd birthday in the second lockdown! For poor ds2 we couldn’t even leave the house as we were isolating!

They both had fun birthdays, lots of decorations, balloons, some presents and a cake is all they need really. Are there any playgrounds within driving distance he hasn’t been too? Some national trust properties or castles have brilliant playgrounds. Whatever you end up doing I’m sure he will love it they are so easily pleased at this age.

DS has a November birthday when places are closed.

He likes a birthday zoo trip.

Thanks everyone, all lovely ideas.

I guess I am probably over thinking it!

We're actually planning to get him a balance bike for his birthday, so perhaps what we should do is a treasure map that leads to the bike and then go somewhere that he can try it out and have some cake / picnic while we're there.
