Switching from 3 to 2 wheeled scooter - yikes!

DS (5) got a new scooter some months ago as his old mini micro was staring to look a bit small and DS (2) has had his eye on it. I bought a 2 wheeled scooter and he is struggling! We have had it for months and he still can't use it properly and really does not want to practice either. He is a bit challenged when it comes to his balance and I am now regretting going straight to 2 wheels. Should I bite the bullet and buy a Maxi micro type? He needs something suitable for the school run. How long did it take your child to get it and have you got any tips on what might help?

My ds (6) is still struggling with his. We did the same at about age 5-bought a new one and gave his micro to his sister. But to be fair we only use it once a week or so and he hasn't given up yet. It's just so much heavier than the micro and a different skill in terms of balance. That doesn't help much! But I sympathise!
