Hi apologies if I come across as a bit thick but I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to laptops.

I had to buy a laptop for college work and to do a university course . The kids broke my last one which was windows 8 I think..anyway it's got microsoft One drive on it and everything saves to that! And now I've no storage at all for pictures as i tried to down load some from my camera and now the laptop is full. Except it isnt. It a 4GB ram. 3.7 is still useable and now it's slow cos of this bloody one drive. Wants me to pay up to 80 pound a year to store photos on my own laptop!
It's a HP 14s-dq1xxx.
I've never had one drive before and I'm missing my old laptop already.

Any advice from anyone would be great..im not that good with laptops but at least my old hp was easy to use. This isnt Sad

Is it not just a link to remote storage? You should be able to change the default to c:/ when you Save As.

Incogenie · 15/12/2020 14:40

You should be able to open C drive/the hard drive in Windows explorer and save files there instead on in one drive it may just be that that is what comes up as the default file location

TooTrueToBeGood · 15/12/2020 14:41

OneDrive is cloud storage. I use it as it's useful for backups and also to be able to access my files from any device. If you don't want to use it and can't uninstall just change the settings to stop synching to it.

ghostmous3 · 15/12/2020 14:43

I've tried that. It still saves automatically to one drive

No point taking it off. Just save your files to your C drive .

Personally I use USB storage sticks (cheap just don't lose them).

TooTrueToBeGood · 15/12/2020 14:46

What did you try? If you go into OneDrive Settings/Account there should be an option to unlink your device. That should stop all synching.

KingCatMeowInSpace · 15/12/2020 14:48

Can you open your 'Documents' folder from the start menu at bottom left of screen n see where all your docs are stored then move them out of one drive ?

ghostmous3 · 15/12/2020 14:50

Right I've uninstalled it now..found that button at least..

I tried to change where the files went and it really wouldnt let me..even the other half tried..

Switched it back on now and found my pictures in the windows hurrah

I think one drive is gone.

I'm not too bothered about backing them up..I've got external hard drives anyway. If one drive was free then I would have no problem with it. Bit I cant afford to pay 80 quid a year to store the many many photos I have

What did you try?

Right click OneDrive > Shared Folder Synchronisation
Again Click OneDrive > Settings - go through options checking its not automatically saving stuff

BigFatLiar · 15/12/2020 14:52

If one drive was free then I would have no problem with it

Only 5Gb is free

ghostmous3 · 15/12/2020 14:52

Thank you everyone. I'm sure there was a way of saving my photos etc by moving them from one drive but I couldnt figure it out Blush

I'm a bit old school.

Only 5Gb is free

I know. And I'm not paying for extra space. I really dont have the cash at the moment..

Thanks bigfatliar for helping me though. I did see your post about how to unsynchronise it but I've already deleted it...if I reinstall it. I'll try what you suggested Smile

If you want cloud storage check your service provider, they may provide cloud storage as part of your package.

ghostmous3 · 15/12/2020 15:04

Will do! Thanks
