I just got stabbed, in the thumb, by my own hair

I was idly having a little scracltch of my head when I suddenly felt a minor but spikey pain in my thumb.

I pulled my hand away from my head and looked at the thumb, it had 2cm of brown thin something pointing out, like a thin splinter. It wasn't tapered like many splinters are, and I assure you my head isn't made of wood.

Without thinking i pulled it out, and to my surprise it was floppy. I then realised it was a piece of my own hair.

I quickly shook it away onto the floor where it will live until I hoover my office, probably another week or more then I got a but freaked out!

Is this how people are being infected by covid? Is it Boris sending rogue hairs into our heads to inject us with microchips and steal our money?

My thumb is still stinging a bit so I googled, and apparently being stabbed by your own hair is a thing, so my conspiracy theories can stand down.

Anyone else had this or anything equally weird happen to them? I really wish I'd taken a picture before I destroyed the evidence. I'm worried noone will believe me now.

@Newjobnewslob wouldn't of thought a hair could pierce the skin x

Well played. I hadn't a clue where you were going with this to begin with.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 15/12/2020 12:22

But how can something floppy adequately penetrate?

Dave35 · 15/12/2020 12:24

@LongPauseNoAnswer it might of been stiff Grin x

Delia65 · 15/12/2020 12:24

I asked my husband the same question not so long ago...Grin

Yes I've had this, I guess it depends on your hair type, mine is fairly thick and coarse. The worst is when I get them in the soles of my feet, very sore and hard to find them to remove them.

Hairdressers get hair splinters very regularly - but it's other people's hair Envy my friend who owns a salon often finds hairs of other colours 'growing' from his arms

Especially if she'd been touching it beforehand.

This happens to me all the time, it's a thing! I'm also confused about how it actually happens, it's really weird.

Innermagic · 15/12/2020 12:28

As a hairdresser I can confirm hair splinters are a thing. A recently cut hair has a sharp edge

isawthat · 15/12/2020 12:30

This has happened to me before, on my foot, it was so painful

Geekster1963 · 15/12/2020 12:33

When we had a dog, I would sometimes get her hairs stuck under my big toe. They hurt disproportionately and I always knew when there was one stuck in it

Slipper2 · 15/12/2020 12:35

Really common for hairdressers and worse when it's not your own hair! Also very common for them to be on the chest and stomach area because of where the hair goes while cutting, and feet if they wear open shoes!

FourTeaFallOut · 15/12/2020 12:38

This is a real thing? I thought the op was just starting a new Mexican wave of tin foil hattery?

Poshjock · 15/12/2020 12:39

Dog hair splinters are a thing. Especially with course hair breeds. I had labradors and was often resorting to tweezers to pull hair out of my feet. And it hurt like needles too. Sometimes they would even pentrate the thick skin on my feet. Just how? My dogs were soft and cuddly.

YorkieTheRabbit · 15/12/2020 12:58

Many years ago I was a hairdresser, believe me, it happens on a regular basis. The times I had to tweeze hairs out of myself, including nipples Xmas Shock grim

Newjobnewslob · 15/12/2020 18:31

I wouldn't have believed it before today either, but I promise it happened to me exactly as I said!

After a quick Google I was convinced this isn't that odd at all...

I've had them in the sole of my foot before; that's why I never go barefoot in the house. Very painful.
GloGirl · 15/12/2020 19:27

I cut my kids hair and gave myself a hair splinter on my foot once. By god it hurt!

When I removed it and declared it was hair my DH was watching. I swear the sexual tension fell out of our marriage that day Xmas Envy
MooseyGoose90 · 15/12/2020 19:31

I clip horses and dogs, and spend my life pulling out hair splinters.. they are very painful, and if left cause a nasty irritation! Never had a human hair splinter, but my hair dresser confirmed it happens to her often

MillieMoodle · 15/12/2020 19:32

My DH always me gets them in the soles of his feet. I shave his hair for him and think he must just stand in the cuttings. Then I get to tweezer them out. Who said romance was dead?! Grin
