COVID test before op

DS has to have a COVID test on 27th December before an angiogram on 30th December. He is coming to stay with us over Christmas and we will take him back on the 27th. Is it ok to enter his Tier 3 area from our Tier 2 area?

After the test does he need to avoid public transport before his op. Hope someone can help.

My understanding, from the people I’ve spoken to about being tested prior to op, is that they then need to shield until they have had their op.
It would be very unfair to the surgeon, theatre staff, nurses & any patients sharing pos op recovery, to have a negative result but then go out and about and catch it as people are contagious prior to having symptoms.

I'm sure he's supposed to be self isolating for the 2 weeks prior to the OP. It'll put him at risk as well as the staff as he doesn't want Covid when recovering from surgery.

He needs to self isolate from his COVID test up until his operation.

As the government is relaxing the rules for 23rd-27th then I would say it would be fine to travel from tier 3 to tier 2 on the 27th but then he can’t go back with you, he needs to go to wherever he will be staying up until his operation

I meant tier 2 to 3 as stated in the op

Thanks for the information. Ds lives on his own and doesn’t drive and we felt it best for us to collect him rather than let him to travel by train so as to keep him safe. He is quite happy to isolate but I just wanted to check.

I had an op last week, had a COVID test 72hrs before and had to self isolate from when I had the test until my op, had to completely isolate away from everyone including my family that I live with, not easy but managed it.
He can travel on public transport to get to his op but he must follow guidelines by wearing a mask whilst travelling.
I live in tier 2 and my op was in tier 3, DH drove me there and back this is allowed as it’s for health care.
