Which measures would you like to stay in place once Corona is "over"?

I just had to collect a parcel from Currys. I'd ordered online. I received an email, which contained a link; when I arrived at the store, I parked in one of the collection bays, opened the email, clicked the link, and they brought my parcel out. Very smooth and easy. Made me wonder whether they'll keep it in place once Corona measures are gone; I hope they do, because it was very easy!

What other measures do you think should be kept?

I hated virtual parents evening. I found it stressful watching the clock tick down (we only got 3 mins) and so impersonal.
Our school has a huge screen with a clock ticking and counting down and a buzzer when we had f2f parents eve. I found the zoom ones loads better. Also in the 11 years of having a DC at school, my DH has only made 1 or 2 parents evenings - having the zoom one meant he didnt have an excuse not to attend!

MushMonster · 15/12/2020 07:28

Hand sanitiser at the entrance of work places and shops. This will save us from lots of bugs!
Being able to re-schedule a delivery from the post office at a time you are home.

Sunnysideup999 · 15/12/2020 07:41

Masks on tubes and trains
Yes to parent talks on line
Social distancing in shops and public places
Hand washing for all
Mix of wfh and some office based meetings is good

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/12/2020 07:53

None. I don't want to live like this. I can't WFH so that's not changed for me!

Oh but, I have enjoyed ordering from my table at restaurants and pubs.

RMRM · 15/12/2020 07:59

I love all of it. It's all much better now. Can't believe I let so many people breathe all over me before.

Bollss · 15/12/2020 08:38

Why? Did it ever bring you any harm? Confused
RMRM · 15/12/2020 08:54

I don't enjoy being constantly ill (who does?), or my children constantly being ill with endless colds. No sleep for weeks in the Winter because they can't breathe through their noses or have horrendous coughs. Didn't have any of that in lockdown. I had sleep for the first time in years. I don't even think we have particularly bad immune systems, it's just the way it is with children and public mixing.

I just don't know why we find it acceptable for people to spread their germs by struggling into work and school. Sick leave needs to be improved and we need a whole attitude change.

Bollss · 15/12/2020 08:59

I agree sick leave needs to be improved but I don't want masks and social distancing forever. Your family certainly seems to suffer more than mine I must admit.

umpteennamechanges · 15/12/2020 09:17

Having heard more about people who have various conditions that mean that coughs and colds can be so much worse for them (and that basically they kind of live in the state of health anxiety the more general population are experiencing now) I will be much more conscious of not spreading germs.

So when I have a cough or cold I will use hand sanitizer frequently and before touching surfaces that others may touch.

I would be happy to wear a mask with a cough or cold and to generally stay at home until I'm less contagious where possible.

umpteennamechanges · 15/12/2020 09:18

Also e-consult for GPs and vets if it's not obvious that you need to see them face to face. Much better!

More regular Zoom calls with friends who live so far away that I rarely see them.

MaudesMum · 15/12/2020 09:39

Does anyone think that hand sanitiser at the entrance to shops etc actually achieves anything? In my experience, people tend to use it in a half-arsed kind of way - so that they can be seen to have done so. If everyone did a 20-second hand-wash as recommended, the queues to get into shops would be even longer and more irritating than they are now.

MaudesMum · 15/12/2020 09:48

And, no, I want to retain absolutely nothing about this shit-show of a year. I'd even like social kissing back.

RMRM · 15/12/2020 10:01

It makes me feel better after seeing how many dirty mingers swan out of public toilets without washing their hands.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 15/12/2020 10:07

@Bleughbleughbleugh12

Masks, social distancing, frequent lock downs... it will help stop all the other viruses we all get regularly
Please tell me you don't actually think this would be a good plan?! Shock
ExpensivelyDecorated · 15/12/2020 10:36

We don't get many colds as a family (maybe a few days once a year each at the most), so no change for us there but I agree its not nice having people cough and sneeze over you, masks when you have a cold in future might be a good idea. Absolutely no to social distancing unless you are unwell though, I hate it.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 15/12/2020 10:42

Working from home. I’m not working currently anyway because I was a SAHM when COVID started and was planning to put DS in nursery and get a job this year but for obvious reasons that’s been much harder than I’d anticipated! (We’re very lucky that DP could continue working through lockdown and earns just enough that we can get by on one income) Now that more companies have had to make it possible to work from home then it’ll be easier for me to find one that I can fit around the kids without having to worry about what it do if one’s off school sick or something.

Capacity restrictions for many things are fantastic although I imagine a big problem where profits are concerned. Took children to soft play over the weekend (usually only ever go during the day on weekday in term time to avoid the rush) and it was almost like a weekday. Likewise for going swimming, ice skating etc. Also all these things so much cleaner now hygiene measures in place

Better cleaning on planes (I have not yet flown since the crisis but hope that planes will continue to enforce strict hygiene measures and get rid of the magazines touched by all)

GP appointments via e-consult for minor issues which can be dealt with remotely and then prescription collected form pharmacy. Saved endless time in waiting room trying to entertain a toddler

Flexible working, saves DH 2.5hrs a day in commuting which is more time with children

Lower spread of all other viruses due to people being forced to stay at home when unwell.

MissSueFlay · 15/12/2020 12:13

I have really loved our class parents being forced to join the 21st century and do the teacher collection via a PayPal pool, not faffing around with a joint card and envelope of cash in the school office, which is closed whenever anyone who works regular office hours is doing drop-off or pick-up. I hope that continues, along with the online parents evenings.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 15/12/2020 12:21

Everywhere taking cards like charity shops etc. That's been a great change (I am sure someone will be along soon enough to tell me how terribly awful it is to say that Hmm)

Less human interaction, if I'm honest both DP and I enjoyed nor being required to spend any more time around people than strictly necessary but I completely recognize that for those who have social interaction as a positive then it must be very hard.

I do think the move to WFH has been positive in most cases where there has been actual understanding of the infrastructure differences needed but sadly I think the people and companies who slap dashed the change and then winged that it didnt work as well will probably win eventually.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/12/2020 12:22

I think some adults have learnt to wash their hands properly for the first time in their lives.

So true.😂. I’ve always been keen on regular and thorough hand washing, so it’s nice to know that more people are doing it!

MrsFezziwig · 15/12/2020 12:39

In school we had to put our desks in rows facing the front with each table separated. It looks like a Victorian school room and I cringed when I saw it.

Our desks were like that and I’m not from the Victorian age! (left schools in the 1970s). Posters on here seem often to equate it with traumatising children but I and my friends had no lasting issues!

ohgetoveryourself · 15/12/2020 13:08

Nothing. Apart from maybe some wfh. I miss good customer service, going to the pub, dating and being sociable. I really hope that the hospitality industry recovers

ScrapThatThen · 15/12/2020 13:17

Booking for swimming in advance

You’d think so but someone on another thread just said they only wash their hands after using the toilet if they’ve done a poo!
DreadingSeason2020sFinale · 15/12/2020 13:18

Staying at a distance and no handshaking. I hate shaking hands.

I'd also like to keep contactless stuff like in the OP with contact free click and collects etc.

Cleaning regularly and washing of hands. I find it gross that an entire chunk of the population had to be taught to wash their hands! I've always expected my kids to wash their hands before they eat and yet their visiting mates don't even do that after using the toilet and I send them back in.
