Which measures would you like to stay in place once Corona is "over"?

I just had to collect a parcel from Currys. I'd ordered online. I received an email, which contained a link; when I arrived at the store, I parked in one of the collection bays, opened the email, clicked the link, and they brought my parcel out. Very smooth and easy. Made me wonder whether they'll keep it in place once Corona measures are gone; I hope they do, because it was very easy!

What other measures do you think should be kept?

@kittensarecute definitely wasn’t being serious 😊

Ltdannygreen · 14/12/2020 18:56

Not sitting next to people on public transport.... I think once that comes back it’s gonna piss me off royally when someone sits too close. I’m loving life on the bus right now 😂

@ErrolTheDragon

* Our immune system needs to come into contact with other people and germs and bactiera. *

From what I've read, animals and a bit of dirt work for this without exposing you to human pathogens. So stroking muddy dogs needs to be encouraged.Grin

Phew!! I have been a bit concerned about my immune system in regards coming into contact with less bugs etc for it to practise fighting off. Luckily I spend a lot of time cuddling my dog 🐶

BackforGood · 14/12/2020 19:13

I agree @WitsEnding - going back to last orders at 11 and 30mins drinking up time makes so much more sense than this out until breakfast malarkey - especially for the poor staff and taxi drivers etc

I was also cautious previously about the concept of not seeing the GP for an appt, but it actually makes a lot of sense for some things, when it is a regular occurrence for you and you know exactly what it is, it seems daft now to have to physically go to the surgery and share germs.

Doctors appointments. Quick chat on the phone, prescription to local pharmacy within the hour. No hanging about in a waiting room or 3 day wait for an appointment

I haven't missed manspreading at all!

@BackforGood @AliMonkey

I have liked our road whatsapp group but judging by the recent thread about class whatsapp groups at school I think they will be unpopular on MN which seems to have a high number of very well paid and able to wfh introverts!

Iwantmorechocolate · 14/12/2020 20:10

Working from home where possible. No I don’t need to be in the building 100% of the time to get work done.

MrsJBaptiste · 14/12/2020 20:11

God, I hate the constant use of hand sanitiser. I can't wait until we don't constantly have to mask up and sanitise your hands just to go to the shops.

I think I'm the only one who misses hugging, kissing, even air kissing strangers!

I also like standing at the bar in a pub. Who wants to go in, sit down and see virtually nobody until you leave? I'm a total people watcher and like to get dressed up for other people to see me, not just the people I'm out with!

depopsa · 14/12/2020 20:13

Classes available online. I'm a single parent and have been able to do many more creative and sporty activities since they've gone online.

TooManyDogsandChildren · 14/12/2020 20:24

Virtual parents evening - SO much more efficient

Ordering and paying for drinks food by the pub/restaurant's own app. Again, so much more efficient.

Leaving parcels and food deliveries at the door. I have been trying to train couriers to do this for years!

No handshakes or kissing (work or social) - huge improvement, I always hated it.

TooManyDogsandChildren · 14/12/2020 20:26

Video doctor's appointments too. Quick vied consult then prescription emailed to pharmacy. Surely must be more efficient for doctors too.

WFH of course, though I did anyway, but I don't feel unusual now :)

BackforGood · 14/12/2020 20:32

You're not wrong @Fizbosshoes Smile

More home working in industries where it is possible. However I also appreciate many people need to get out of the house to work for their mental health so I hope office working is available again for those who want it but on a more flexible basis. People could work 3 days at the office, 2 days at home, for example. Or work from home if they have a cold but aren't too ill to work, but just don't want to infect anyone else.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2020 20:39

I quite like being able to book National trust properties. Although it does take away the spontaneity. If they could do a mixture of on the day tickets and Pre booked it would be perfect.

AngeloMysterioso · 14/12/2020 20:39

DH working from home. That’s it.

Literally everything else about Covid can go fuck itself.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2020 20:41

I also like the screens and sanitiser everywhere. I would also be happy to wear a mask of I had a stinking cold.

Egghead68 · 14/12/2020 20:42

Zoom seminars and meetings. Great not having to travel.

Egghead68 · 14/12/2020 20:48

Using hand sanitiser willy nilly is just adding to antibiotic resistance

???? How?

confusedofengland · 14/12/2020 22:21

Things being less busy. Eg we went ice skating at the weekend & there were only 50 spaces. Compared to the same time last year when there were probably twice as many spaces filled, it was heaven! Plenty of room & not overwhelming for anybody. You do have to book well in advance but this is easily done if you are organised. I would rather only be allowed to go say once a month with limited figures than twice a month with a lot more.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 14/12/2020 22:42

Masks if you have a cough/cold and on public transport.

Better hand hygiene

WFH if you have a cold - don’t come in and sneeze on me.

Booking time slots for galleries/exhibitions/museums - can actually stand and look!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 14/12/2020 22:50

Masks if ill and leaving the house. Social distancing of strangers and work colleagues.

Online meetings, training, parent evening etc and the GP telephone consultation which is great.

Not signing for parcels has been great, no more having to collect missed deliveries.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 14/12/2020 23:41

WFH for those who can and want to. Pre-covid, I was stressed over my London commute and haggling over leaving 15 minutes earlier so I could race back before wraparound closed. Now I collect the DC from school every day, which I've never done before in their lives. I'm saving about £600 a month on childcare and commuting costs.

Local businesses having an online presence, even if it's just a price list. It's so much easier to shop locally at independent shops now.

YY to sending the DC into school in their PE kits on PE days. Although DS has still managed to lose his jumper Hmm

jay55 · 15/12/2020 00:40

Selfishly I'd love to never have to sit next to anyone in the cinema or theatre again. But I know economically that's not viable (though I go to the cinema off peak to avoid people anyway).

IdblowJonSnow · 15/12/2020 00:58

Hand washing and hand san everywhere. People staying home if they're ill and coughing on their arms rather than on hands and then touching everything. Xmas Envy
I've definitely had fewer colds and other bugs this year.
