Which measures would you like to stay in place once Corona is "over"?

I just had to collect a parcel from Currys. I'd ordered online. I received an email, which contained a link; when I arrived at the store, I parked in one of the collection bays, opened the email, clicked the link, and they brought my parcel out. Very smooth and easy. Made me wonder whether they'll keep it in place once Corona measures are gone; I hope they do, because it was very easy!

What other measures do you think should be kept?

Distanced queues, you do not need to try and get in my trousers next to me to be served, step back ffs.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 15/12/2020 01:34

Totally agree with those saying that people need proper sick leave and the option to wfh when they’re ill. It’s horrendous when someone feels they have to drag themselves into work and end up infecting everyone and/or getting worse themselves.

I’ve taken to the idea of wearing a mask when I have a cough or cold ( at least on public transport or in crowds). I also like social distancing, although in reality, pubs and restaurants will need to pack people in simply to survive financially.

Mally2020 · 15/12/2020 02:54

As someone with someone with social anxiety and OCD, I would like simple things like reduced direct communication in stores/public areas and sitting apart on public transport to be the norm going forward . Also, even I noticed our standards of cleanliness were nowhere near where they should be, so frequent cleaning of public areas and just routines like handwashing being more normal for everyone puts me at ease regardless of covid.

Mally2020 · 15/12/2020 02:56

Also have to agree with above, companies putting employee health over work, work, work. Yes there should be valid proof of illness or childcare need but if employers weren't so selfish spread of any illnesses could be reduced.

ConfusedcomMum · 15/12/2020 02:59

I'd like to still wear a mask without being judged. My family and I have covid right now 🙄 but apart from that managed to stay illness free all year and I've had no cold sores (mine are triggered by strong sunlight or bitter cold winds).

BruceAndNosh · 15/12/2020 03:16

I'll be quite happy to see the end of being kissed on cheek by mere acquaintances.
I've got used to not shaking hands, and do a little head Bob instead.

I'll most probably continue wearing a mask in certain circumstances even when it's no longer mandatory like crowded trains or planes.

NelliePig · 15/12/2020 03:22

No partners in maternity wards. Couldnt think of anything worse than being in early labour and having to listen to other people chatting a load of rubbish. It was perfect, nice and quiet, I could hear the TV, I watched bake off after my induction and DP joined me on the delivery suite at 4cm. Lovely!!

ExpensivelyDecorated · 15/12/2020 06:03

I really want increased social interaction again. No screens, no masks unless ill, being able to chat to shop assistants and other passengers on trains or in queues again. Being able to have face to face meetings with my colleagues again or sit and eat linch with them. All this remoteness this year has made me feel very down, I couldn't live like it long term. Don't mind the booking slots for reduced numbers of spaces thing but I suspect long term it would see a lot of businesses go to the wall.

I want to see people jumping into bushes still. It's a good sport. Just how far is Barbara from number 32 willing to get into that holly bush?

Dinosauraddict · 15/12/2020 06:09

I would happily stay working from home, or go into the office perhaps one day per week! I also love the fact that people don't invade my space and touch me now.

lurker101 · 15/12/2020 06:10

Hand sanitiser at tube stations is a good thing
Telephone GP appointments being more common is a good thing and reduces unnecessarily long appointments and can be done from anywhere, rather than taking 2hrs out of work for a 15 minute appointment and waiting in a gritty germ-ridden room, with screaming sneezing children around you.
Mask wearing when unwell would cut lots of other illness and be a nicer experience for others
Table ordering/ app ordering in bars is fantastic and should stay, avoids the massive queue for a drink

lurch3r · 15/12/2020 06:17

Nothing except the hand sanitizer. I'm in a primary school and they've all got the habit now. Still getting the usual manky colds though, but I expect it's better than it would have been. I miss shaking hands with people.

ChristmasinJune · 15/12/2020 06:19

In school we had to put our desks in rows facing the front with each table separated. It looks like a Victorian school room and I cringed when I saw it. The children absolutely love it though, they love having their own space and not having to shuffle round to see me. The class is so much calmer and I think the desks are staying!

Oh and I love the online triage at the Gp surgery (although I'd like to be able to get an actual appointment at the end of it 🤣)

Clockstop · 15/12/2020 06:24

I want the hand sanitizer gone. I do wonder if it will cause a rise in childhood leukemia based on this www.nhs.uk/news/cancer/child-leukaemia-linked-reduced-exposure-germs/

Quirrelsotherface · 15/12/2020 06:29

Parents evening online, flexible working, sanitiser and masks in shops, distancing on public transport. I haven't caught a bad cough or cold this year and usually I have several.

HelloDulling · 15/12/2020 06:34

I hated virtual parents evening. I found it stressful watching the clock tick down (we only got 3 mins) and so impersonal.

ChaToilLeam · 15/12/2020 06:37

Better hygiene
More home working for those who want it

Otherwise, no. It’s been horrible and I will be glad when it’s over.

ouchmyfeet · 15/12/2020 06:40

Not having to go into school for assemblies/plays/parents evenings, and most of all not having my PILs stay. It has been fucking glorious not seeing them all yearGrin

lifestooshort123 · 15/12/2020 06:42

I love the perspex screens between tables in my local cafe - I don't want some fat arse wiggling her backside over my brunch to get on to the bench seat next to me. I love social distancing, not having to hug strangers and I don't really mind masks as they convey anonymity.

ThornAmongstRoses · 15/12/2020 07:00

I love the service my GP surgery now provides!

You go onto their website, send a message about your heath problem, attach photos if necessary and then the doctor or practice nurse phones you back within 4 hours. If they want to see you, you go in, if not they will just deal with it over the phone and arrange a prescription to be sent to the pharmacy if it’s something you need.

It’s amazing!!

No more spending God knows on the phone in the morning to try and get a doctors appointment and then sitting in a waiting room with 50 other people and not being seen for at least 30 minutes past your scheduled appointment time.

I really, really hope they keep their current way of doing things - it is so much more efficient!

ChristmasinJune · 15/12/2020 07:05

I haven't caught a bad cough or cold this year and usually I have several.

Yes, this too. I'd had 3 by this point last year. None this year..... hope it lasts!

RuthW · 15/12/2020 07:07

Most of it, with the exception of my social dancing once a week.

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2020 07:09

I’d still like to wfh a couple of days a week, but need to social buzz of going into the office.

Would happily never go to a work Christmas do again!

HappyHomeWorker · 15/12/2020 07:11

One way systems in shopping centres. I’ve said it for years.

Velvian · 15/12/2020 07:18

A lot of things have been good. I agree with reduced hugging and kissing.

WFH means not paying for childcare for me, I take 'lunch' to pick DC up. Much easier to work late to finish something. It is good not to wear uncomfortable work clothes and shoes.

I think some adults have learnt to wash their hands properly for the first time in their lives.

I would like to see similar measures comes in for Norovirus and other nasty gastric bugs.

Fewer weekend obligations have been a relief.

I miss socialising (with the friends I do likeGrin), theatre, holidays, meals out, having a laugh at work, local panto Xmas Sad
