TV shows and movies you cannot believe they made

There was a Bachelor-style US TV show called "I wanna marry Harry" where a load of women thought they were competing to marry the real Prince Harry, but he was obviously a fake 😂 I didn't watch it but heard about it - promo photo below of the (shit) fake Harry.

Does anyone remember a similar show where British people competed to be Paris Hilton's BFF for when she was in London?! She would "evict" them by saying "TTYN - talk to you never" and then when she picked a 19yo boy they were all outraged when she took him to Las Vegas and he wasn't allowed in a club. Did they not know about the drinking age limit?! I also vaguely remember her picking the winner on a helipad in winter, the poor contestants had blue lips and were shivering 😂

What other shows or films can't you believe were made?

Oh and I'm sure Paris sat in a throne while she was telling people she'd never talk to them again ConfusedHmmGrin

Naked Attraction. I can still barely believe it.

Don’t scare the hare.

It got binned before the end of the series was ever shown.

Little Britain. Not even particularly old but so many 'jokes' about race, sexuality, disability etc. I don't think it'd be aired today.

macaronip1e · 13/12/2020 06:09

Bridalplasty - it was a US reality competition with brides-to-be where each weeks winner would win a different cosmetic procedure on their wish list (which was then performed the next week); the eventual winner had all their list performed.

Agree. It was spectacularly shit.
Soubriquet · 13/12/2020 06:17

Jackass...my family thought it was hilarious

I thought it was shit. People deliberately hurting themselves was not funny

RememberSelfCompassion · 13/12/2020 06:25

Little Britain.

Also spitting image. Loved it at the time...but songs like "ive never met a nice SA" would not air now 😯.

FippertyGibbett · 13/12/2020 06:27

Little Britain was vile.

nosswith · 13/12/2020 09:08

Mrs Brown's Boys. Worse that it is still being made.

RigaBalsam · 13/12/2020 09:10

The game show with a naked Keith Chegwin. Can't remember the name.🙈

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 13/12/2020 09:13

"ive never met a nice SA" would not air now

It was a protest song about the then regime in SA (apartheid) - so doesn't really make sense outside that specific era and context. It was on the B side of their no. 1 hit 'The Chicken Song'.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 13/12/2020 09:18

That bloke in the OP looks nothing like Prince Harry.

funfunfunfunfun · 13/12/2020 09:23

Signed by Katie Price! Does anyone remember this?

Stillfunny · 13/12/2020 09:24

The Swan. An American TV show where so called ugly people were transformed by cosmetic surgery to be beauty pageant ready.
Even at the time , I thought WTF . Guess what , made by Fox TV.

Man about the House

Sitcom with a single "joke" that two girls sharing a flat in the 1970s must be "a pair of ravers," and if a man moves in to flatshare with them he must must MUST be shagging one or both of them, and oh the hilarity that he is not . . . Hmm

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 13/12/2020 10:11

The 'On the Buses' movie - one of the top grossing films of the 1970s. The plot revolves around the decision to start employing women bus drivers - the horror - and the male drivers' dirty-tricks campaign to get rid of them by such tactics as putting spiders in their cabs (because all women are terrified of spiders) and adding diuretics to their tea. The film would better be described as 'Sex Discrimination on the Buses' Grin.

icebearforpresident · 13/12/2020 10:30

I think it was called Playing It Straight. Single gal is in a fancy resort with a bunch of guys for a bachelor style dating show but one (or more, can’t quite remember) is gay. If she picks a straight guy at the end she got the man and a cash prize, pick a gay guy and he got the money. It was a load of gay stereotypes, guys acting like being gay is the worst thing in the world and the inevitable fall out about the gay guy lying to her when she picked him at the end (‘you can’t be gay, you’re a builder!!)

Slightly ashamed to admit it (although not really) but I still laugh at Jackass.

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 13/12/2020 10:41

Geordie Shore, it's not a true representation of Geordies at all!

Drogonssmile · 13/12/2020 11:21

Taken from wiki

The Swan was a 2004 American reality television program broadcast on Fox in which women who were judged to be ugly were given "extreme makeovers" that included several forms of plastic surgery.

I used to watch this! It was awful!

nosswith · 13/12/2020 11:25

@Paleodiet Strictly should have ended when Sir Bruce Forsyth was no longer presenting (RIP). Just as Countdown when Richard Whiteley died.
