Registering with the AIRE in London in order to renew a long lapsed Italian passport - looking for advice.

Am wondering if anyone can help.
I am half English half Italian and a long time ago had an Italian passport as well as my British one. At the time I lived in Belgium and was registered at the “AIRE” there.

After that I did not renew my Italian passport but kept my British one going.

I am now living in London (where I have been for more than 20 years) and would like to renew my Italian passport.

Does anyone know the process? I have registered with the electronic London AIRE portal and they want me to send through documents which prove I live here, the identity documents of the people I live with (my kids), and my own identify document. Do I send them a copy of my current British passport or my very lapsed Italian one or both do you know? Or do I have to go further back and send them proof of my Mum being Italian (she passed away in 2006)?

The aim would be to register with the AIRE here, renew my passport and then apply for my dc to become citizens as well.

I have been putting this off for ages so if someone has any info I would be grateful. Thanks 😊.

I don’t know the specifics but if you have some budget it might be worth getting an immigration lawyer to help you, an Italian qualified notary or similar.

When I last went (in person) I went with a lapsed Italian passport and a valid Italian ID card.

I think lapsed Italian passport is what you need as you are proving your "Italianess"

I need to get the DCs first Italian passports but I keep putting it off as its so complicated!
