Have any of you had unexplained coccyx pain?

I've woken up with pain in my tail bone. I'm struggling to sit and going up the stairs is agony. The only this I've been doing is walking the dog so I can't imagine that's caused it. I've also come on my period today but I've never had this pain before.

Any advice? If you've had it how long did it last and what was the cause? Many thanks

Yes I had this on and off for a while with no obvious cause. After researching I believe the cause is pain in the periformis muscle causing nerve pain. If you look on YouTube there are videos with exercises you can do to losen the muscle which helped me, worth a go? Mine seemed to get much better when I started wfh during covid so I think it might have had something to do with my office chair and desk set up (very old chair). Hope you can figure it out!

Thankyou, thats really helpful. I did spend 5 hours sat at my desk yesterday and then fell asleep on the sofa for half an hour when I got home so maybe I was in an awkward position. Its a dreadful pain.

I sometimes get it and always wonder if it's to do with my endometriosis...

I lost a lot of weight (12st) a decade ago, and shortly afterwards I found that I had pain whenever I sat for an extended period of time. I was told that it was because my coccyx was normally much more cushioned but since I lost weight it puts more pressure on it when I sit. GP said the pain would most likely go away - and it did.

Have you lost a lot of weight recently?

Unfortunately not, I've gained a stone since March.
