Btw, FlouncingB, I'd go for the smaller size for joggers because they're elasticated and can stretch. But get a gift receipt!

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 21:18

Aww I’m touched. 😊

First two are Respect - by Aretha and Erasure. Don’t know the third, although it rings a bell and I expect it’s called Respect?!

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 21:24

Wham did indeed donate all their proceeds from Last Xmas to Band Aid in 1984. I thought they were no 2?

Mariah was kept off no1 by East 17’s fake Xmas song, Stay Now. 1994 perhaps?

@ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf - you know I said, "I think I know the key to the theme.."
And you jumped on that and begged me not to tell anyone.. and to give everyone else a chance...
... And then you offered me zillions of points (which I know now are imaginary anyway, and there is no fucking spreadsheet) for keeping schtum...

Well.. I never knew the theme at all, (until Whippersnapper guessed they weren't number ones). I initially thought you'd made an anagram that spelt 'Happy Christmas' or something, realised that was a ridiculous thought, then stopped thinking about it as you'd decided I had guessed the theme anyway. I just sat back and waited for my points to roll in... GrinGrinGrin

(Sorry for essay)

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 21:43

I love you, needtoknow. I totally, totally love you. You can have 12 points for honesty.
No, there is no spreadsheet. (Not even I'm sad enough to have the time or inclination)
But if there was, I'm sure you'd be 2nd!

I thought you might have come across my theme when you were researching yours.

I suppose I should untie you and let you go home now???

Honey. The third one is Respect Yourself.
Obviously they've all been got, so nil points.

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 21:44

Ok, here’s a few from me.

A dream’s a dream
In a dream where I’m reading pages
Pages full of words
It’s getting harder
(1980s. Quite a hard one)

Yeah I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
That you could be in love with almost anyone
(80s)

The ice age is coming
The suns zooming in
Meltdown expected
The wheats growing thin
(80s? Not sure)

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 21:46

Oh! I know that 2nd one

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 21:49

Oh fucking hell! It's the damned!!!!!!!!

I don't expect to get that on here. Its alone again or

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 21:50

Is the 3rd one the damned too? Just can't be happy today

CarnageAtTheElfsXmasParty · 13/12/2020 21:51

Is it Blind Vision- Blancmange ? @Honeyroar

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 21:52

Correct the second one is The Damned. The third isn’t.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 21:52

Are they all???

I think just can't be happy today is 70s.

THANK YOU sweet honey-pie.

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 21:53

Well done @CarnageAtTheGardenCentre I didn’t think anyone would get that one so quickly.

Ironically I thought the third one would go first!

NeedToKnow101 · 13/12/2020 22:01

Thank you ElfShelf Love you too ElfShelf Yes Elf Shelf if you could let me go home now that would be nice sane.

Btw Im sure you're not insinuating that I got my theme from Google like you did ❤️

Oh and thanks for the points! Much appreciated 😘

NeedToKnow101 · 13/12/2020 22:02

Ah! Threads moved on.., GrinGrinGrin

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 22:02

The third one hasn’t been guessed yet.

Excuse me, needtoknow. I didn't "get" my theme from google!!!! I had the idea for the theme all by myself. But then I did have to look up what the no 2s were.
WhipperSnapperSteve · 13/12/2020 22:20

Honey, your third is London Calling by The Clash, yes?

WhipperSnapperSteve · 13/12/2020 22:25

@Honeyroar

Wham did indeed donate all their proceeds from Last Xmas to Band Aid in 1984. I thought they were no 2?

Mariah was kept off no1 by East 17’s fake Xmas song, Stay Now. 1994 perhaps?

Stay Another Day, written by East 17 member Tony Mortimer after his brother's suicide.
Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 22:28

Yes it was London Calling. 👍

I never knew that was what Stay Another Day was about. How sad.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 22:49

I missed the Clash???? Gutted!

I didn't know that about E17 either. That is really sad.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 22:58

Right, I'm bored of my theme now. Also slightly sweating about the fact that I might have admitted on a public forum to the kidnap and torture of one of it's users.
Not to mention the whole breaking of lockdown thing (have you SEEN the coronavirus topic board????)

So, here's my list. I don't think they were all got, so zero points all round.

All the time we were apart
I thought of you
You were in my heart
My love never changed
I still feel the same
Especially for You, Kylie and Jason 1988. No 1 was Miseltoe and Wine, Cliff Richard

No man, does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
YMCA, The Village People 1978. No 1 was Mary’s Boy Child, Boney M

Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas Day
All I want for Christmas is You, Mariah Carey 1994. No 1 was Stay Another Day, East 17

My friends try and tell me find a man of my own
But each time I try I just break down and cry
'Cause I'd rather be home feeling blue
Saving All My Love For You, Whitney Houston 1985. No 1 was Merry Christmas Everyone, Shakin’ Stevens

I want to go all the time
You'll be my love tonight
Little darling let's walk
let's talk
Under the moon of love, Showaddywaddy 1976 No 1 was When a Child is Born Johnny Mathis

Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now, I know you'd fool me again
Last Christmas/Everything She Wants,
Wham! 1984. No 1 was Do they Know it’s Christmas? Band Aid

They said I wouldn't dare, to show how much I care
They didn't know we were just two angels in disguise
70s
Gary Glitter, I love you love me, love 1973. No 1 was Slade, Merry Xmas Everybody

So, I know there was some arguing about the Wham/Band Aid/Frankie one. My source was:
After coming up with the idea for the theme ON MY OWN AND BY MYSELF I googled
www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/every-official-christmas-number-1-ever-__3618/
which is every official UK no 1.
Then I googled
www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/19941225/7501/
where you can put in whatever date you want it and it gives you the charts for that week.
The Power of Love was no 6 that week, btw. Down from no 5.

One final week, coffee/needtoknow/anyone else in education. One final week....

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 22:59

its users.

Not it's users.

Xmas Blush Xmas Blush Xmas Blush

Honeyroar · 13/12/2020 23:02

Opposite for me. Might be going back to work on Friday if we’re dropped from tier three to two! I’m not on the Covid panic board, but I’m not sure it’s a good plan to relax just yet.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/12/2020 23:14

Needtoknow was 2m away from me at all times (I measured the cattle prod)

Good luck with work honey. Hope you get actual Christmas off. And good luck with dropping a tier 🤞
