I had a doctors telephone appointment yesterday, all my bloods are back. I have progressed myasthenia gravis and "very, very likely" multiple sclerosis - MRI and neurological appointment for treatment for both in the new year.

Steve that's not great. Have they said if it can be managed?

Or rather what they will do to help you? Or will that be decided by your further tests?

Both can be managed, MS will likely need infusions. Will find out more about the treatment options in the new year.

After the appointment I had to speak to one of the GPS secretaries in order to get referred to neurology. Not kidding that I had a 20 minute conversation with her telling me that dysphagia (swallowing issues) is a gastrointestinal problem not neurological. I wanted to say "excuse me, but I actually have a medical degree, do you?" but instead plodded along - got the referral in the end anyway!

A drug for the myasthenia gravis, rituximab (given as an infusion) costs £350 a pop. I actually feel bad the treatments going to be costing over four grand a year, that's without all the other medication I'm going to need!

Don't feel guilty, it's no less than what you've paid into the system for.

It's why I pay my taxes, for the NHS

SIL has MS ( for over 30 years now ) . She missed out on some of the current treatments for early stage MS , she's always involved in trials , but it's still cruel . I don't recognise the other MG one

I do do coding as part of my job, but would not say I was a coder, what I do is pretty crude stuff!

@WhipperSnapperSteve glad referral has gone through. Don't feel guilty about cost of receiving treatment, appreciate it's available & use it to get the best you can out of your life. We work & pay tax so our services are there to keep us going.

Oh @WhipperSnapperSteve that must have been a scary diagnosis, but take whatever treatment you can and don’t feel remotely guilty. I’m pleased the NHS is helping you. In the meantime try and not worry yourself about it too much (easy for me to say I know) and just keep plodding onwards.
